This movie, during the court hearing portion near the beginning, sure trots out the spectrum of ethnic, etc. stereotypes.
Interesting racket the gang of boys has during the film's opening scenes, when if a car owner doesn't pay them to watch their vehicle, the boys deflate one or more tire, bust a window, steal the hood ornament, etc. I wonder how prevalent that sort of racket was in cities back during the Great Depression - and easily can imagine that it truly was a thing back then.
I own a DVD of this movie, just watched it, anew, first time in a year or two, and noticed, for the first time ever, that when the boys walk into their reformatory dorm for the first time, holding issued items, each is carrying a bucket (obviously to serve as their bedside toilet). Interesting how you can have seen a movie a number of times, yet still notice something new.

Thompson (Dudley Digges) sure does get what he has coming to him in this.
