...after watching 'A Futile and Stupid Jesture' about the creators of National Lampoon's (I knew very little about the people but loved 'Animal House's 'Class Reunion' and 'Vacation' since I was quite young) I watched Caddyshack - a film that somehow passed me by but since finding out it was written by people from National Lampoon's I thought I'd give it a go... I have to agree with Douglas Kelly and his attitude towards it as shown in 'AFASJ' - it really was a terrible film. I didn't find anything at all funny - and I don't think it's an age/time thing as I still find 'Animal House' and all the other late 70's to mid-80s comedies from this group (Ramis, Chase, Belushi...) to be great fun. I just don't see how it can get such high praise... Apparently Caddyshack 2 is even worse...

Caddyshack II is an abortion but Caddyshack is so chock full of funny quotable lines I have to wonder if you slipped into a coma and somehow didn’t watch it. You must be a blast at parties

Wow. I don't like one film and this guy knows all about me... Like I said, I like most films from this period but Caddyshack fell flat for me.

I always get a kick out of guys who are so insecure that they are personally insulted if you don't like their favorite movie. I thought Caddyshack was ok. Old school humor, more obvious and juvenile but funny if you're in the right mood.

To be honest, I didn't make it to the end of Caddyshack, maybe an hour or so... Perhaps it got funnier..? I love Animal House and pretty much anything John Belushi has done and it was on that basis that my boss recommended it, but hey, if this discostu guy is just having a bad day that's his problem...!

lol that's known to happen. Animal House... I never saw it, if you can believe that. I was never a big fan of the 70s SNL crowd until later in their careers when they got more refined... Bill Murray is a great example of what I'm talking about. In Caddyshack he was pure silly slapstick, but his later work in Ghostbusters, Groundhog Day, Coffee & Cigarettes, etc, was more deadpan, sarcastic and witty. Of course you might notice by my username/avatar that I like Steve Martin even when he's playing brainless low brow humor. I mean, hey, sometimes funny is funny.

I never liked Caddyshack either. I love slapstick humour like The Naked Gun and Airplane but this just seemed witless and stupid to me. I do need to watch Animal House though.

Yeah I commented on the cork on the fork in your pic recently - love Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, but The Jerk is probably my all time favourite Steve Martin film... You and @JustinJackFlash should get on it with Animal House
