I wish they focused more in the past. I thought the chase scenes would have been 100 times better if they didn't keep cutting to Fassender in the present attached to the Animus. Took me right out of the scene each time.

I enjoyed it although I thought the third act was a bit rushed and slightly anti-climatic. But overall it was a lot more serious and moody than I expected it to be. If Marvel had made it I'm sure Cal would be making wisecracks or in-jokes all the time to offset the dramatic moments such as:

Cal uses the Animus. After the machine is deactivated and he's back in the present, he says to his captors:

"What a rush. It felt just like a video game."

I actually kinda liked it for the most part, especially the scenes from the past which almost rival the Bourne films as far incredible action set pieces. The third act is definitely a problem but I think they were planning for a sequel and this is the best they could do as far as leaving it open ended.
