Before they enter the "dry" tunnel Writer notices that Prof is missing and stalker said we cant wait for him we must move on everything is changing every min. When Stalker and Writer leave the tunnel they see Profesor eating near fire. Can someone explain. In Zone everything is changing and you need to move forward but Professor was just sitting. Then they all decided to rest and actually they moved very slowly through the zone so did i took those words to literally that its bad to stay in one place or i just dont understand the zone.

My understanding is that the Professor just went back for his backpack and that the other two continued deeper. This is why they were confused to see the Professor again because they had taken different routes. The explanation being because the Zone is a "maze" and the routes can change and be inconsistent.

It's a nuclear wasteland. Why would anyone try to go there without a guide knowing what place was irradiated? It's still picturesque to the viewer because you haven't been there, either.

A minor point, but both film and book are before Chernobyl and the book indicates it won't be related to nuclear radiation. Confusingly I think a computer game called Stalker was based in a nuclear wasteland.
