I think the mid 2010s gave us a mini scifi renaissance that tried to return to realism, or at least theoretical realism if that phrase isn’t too ridiculous. Interstellar, like the other 3 movies in the list, shied away from pew-pew lasers & little green men. The drama was more personal, internal or philosophical.

With that in mind, I think the recent best (though not necessarily the most entertaining, because it’s so heavy & claustrophobic) is the Swedish film Aniara (2019). That film really makes you feel the vastness and the coldness of infinite, eternal space which I personally think is as real as it gets.

Of course the granddaddy of this genre is 2001: A Space Oddysey, so that’s required viewing.
