Why are the reviews all so one sided? I can see why it is loved, the performances are good and it is artsy fartsy. But there is plenty to dislike about it too.

It was slightly above average...

I refuse to watch it, given how many times Oscar winners have burned me in the past.

I watched it without reading the reviews, looking for awards or even checking the internet ratings. It feels like a top-notch and stylish indie film that I wouldn't associate with the Academy Awards. I think people who have gone through some sort of major life crisis will appreciate it the most, otherwise the viewers might struggle to identify with the central character.

There honestly wasn't a single thing about this movie that I liked.

Either from those nominated or not...

I was rooting for Whiplash.

The movie was beautiful to look at. The cinematography was excellent. Shots were beautiful. I feel like the actual underpinning narrative plot was not that compelling. All of the themes were better addressed by better movies.
It was an okay movie...

I know they've let you down in the past but you've got to move with your life, not let it consume you. There is good in some previous Oscar winners out there...
Perhaps you could ease back into the game gently with this one - I say it was a great film, Michael Keaton is Birdman. Maybe get your masseur, Nick Jackalaus and his mate Wally over to watch it with you for moral support.

I just can't do it. I've heard too many people say too many bad things about this one.
And, Nick and Wally are only into Polish films.

Don't give up. There are too many people who pretend to appreciate crap. Pretentious dimwits make a movie that wants to be more than it is, but it isn't. Dimwit critics pretend to be high brow and praise it even though deep down they didn't enjoy it. Plebby movie goers pretend to appreciate it because they wish they could be pretentious too.

I mean to put it at the top of my queue, and also Selma.
