Discuss The Terminator

I wasn't alive in 1984; is Sarah supposed to be sexy? Like, traditionally sexy to a 20-30 year old man @ 1975-1985.

No offense meant to her, I don't know the actor. I'm just wondering how the audience is supposed to view her. (As a sexy mid-late 20's waitress, or as not-a-sex-object/more of a lower-class working woman who's going through life).

I personally didn't think that she, or her roommate, were very attractive. And I found the early scene where the roommate/boyfriend were so sexually active confusing. From what I could gather, they are not supposed to be sexy, because their hair is purposefully bad.

Not that anyone is really traditionally attractive in this movie aside from unclothed Arnold.

As an aside, I didn't think much of the Sarah Connor character. At least it wasn't Terminator 3.

She was also in Children of the Corn right around Terminator. It seemed like she had a promising career but you're right, something went wrong.

Reminds me of Diane Lane who also got off to a running start in the early 80s ("The Outsiders", "Streets of Fire", "The Cotton Club") but never really made it to superstardom. Both Linda & Diane have stayed busy with roles to this day though. Maybe they'll pull a Travolta and get a second wind in the action genre.

I forgot about Children of the Corn.

My god Diane Lane was hot.

Was?

I'm not saying she doesn't still look good. But back around the time she was in Judge Dredd she really was a sight to behold.

I can't take anybody seriously who thinks an unclothed Arnold is attractive! Also, from someone who was alive in 1984, that is what most women's hairdos (big & fluffy) looked like.

Have you got the physique Arnie had in the 80s? Gym efforts instilling fear into the faint hearted is a thing.

No, I do not, mainly because I am a female. But I never thought he was attractive in any way.

So what kind of actors do you find attractive? Do you like the gentle nerdy types perfectly fine if you do? And what turns you off Arnie? The Greek god body? The hair, the Austrian accent the biceps?

You paint a tantalizing picture, Adam. A three way with Arnie and Diane Lane is starting to seem like it could be a satisfying way to end an evening.

Did you see Unfaithful or Under the Tuscan Sun?

But other than Dante's Peak I can think of little else she's been in.

She did Beauty and the Beast tv show for a few years.

I did see Unfaithful, yes. It is definitely one for the Diane Lane aficionado.

I'm a female & it's wonderful to see a beautiful woman age gracefully. I just don't understand why some women think that they have to overdo the botox & fillers? It is NOT attractive! I don't think men see it that way either?

Girl was only 40 in that movie, kids. She was hardly ancient by modern standards

Who you calling kid? I'm probably way older than you. I mentioned those two movies because of the 'she WAS hot back then' comment. Those two movies were 20 years after the movies referenced above.

Older at heart than I am, this is undeniable :)

Is that an insult? I think that is an insult?

Totally agree. They look like a joke. Like a clown. Lane looks far better today than those actresses you refer to. It's not just about attractiveness. These actresses are supposed to be portraying everyday people. And everyday people don't look like that. So I'd much, much rather watch something starring Lane than someone like Sandra Bullock. Mainly for the simple reason of authenticity.

And it's not just women who are aging, I've noticed reality tv these days seems to be full to the brim with women who look like aliens. Like they don't actually let women on a reality tv show unless they've had a truckload of surgery. And not good surgery, like if they still look human in any way they're not allowed on the show. But that's not the case with the men on these shows. They may look like rock jawed jock types but there's no artificial improvement. For older women I can see the motivation. But these reality tv people? It's a baffling, baffling phenomenon that I will never understand.

In either case why do viewers want to watch these women? Surely women would want to watch people that they can relate to.

The Big Town you say? And these scenes you speak of contain important artistic influences relevant to the understanding of the development of cinema?

Hmm... Does seem like I should take a look at some point... whenever chance permits.

Doesn't she play an 'exotic dancer'?

As I said earlier, it's a movie that enriches our appreciation of the female form

I was asking. I have never seen it & from the images I saw online, it looks like she was an exotic dancer.

Chance is permitted now

I see Ms. Lolita Davidovich is also in this.
