Discuss Chato's Land

I've seen many movies with horse falls but Winner seemed to want to make them fall in the most visually painful way possible in this film. I winced every time 😖

Also, I hope that the vast number of horse corpses were faked but I have my doubts.

I haven't seen the film Chato's Land. I noticed that it's pretty old for a movie, so the filmmakers probably didn't have to slap a statement onto the credits saying they didn't hurt any animals in it.

So you may be right about the dead horses.

You think 1972 is 'pretty old'? 🙄

Hey Face. For a movie, yes. For a person, no!

Films have been monitored (in the US) for how they treat animals since 1939. But since this was filmed in Spain, who knows how they monitor films?

Ah, thanks for that info, Face. One example of an animal being hurt for the purpose of cinema that always sticks in my mind is the cow's slaughter in Coppola's Apocalypse Now. For some reason, I always tend to forget it was filmed outside of the US, somewhere around Asia, I believe. Your post provided me with context.

You are welcome. May I ask you how old you are? If not, no biggy.

I'd rather not disclose that info.
