For some reason I've always thought that Outland's location was on another moon than our one. And I now remember that Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin did a movie before Stargate called Moon 44.
Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy night.

It was. (A moon of Jupiter?)
Not sure if Moon 44 counts as "Westerny" from my very dim memories of it, si if you're specifying our moon, MZ2 may be unique.
After I posted my last entry, I checked on the commentary track on my DVD (it was included on the MST3000 25th Anniversary Collection.
Apparently, in 1970, Hammer Studios, which made all of those great (and some not so great) horror movies in the 50's and 60's, decided to make a ScFi movie as a change of pace.
