Not one of the best, but worth seeing for some fine performances, especially Gomez and Garfield. The director was blacklisted shortly after making this, and didn't work as a director for a couple of decades, although he was able to write by using a front for his script work.

John Garfield was such a brilliant actor. I agree that this is not top-drawer noir, but very enjoyable all the same.

Yes, Garfield was outstanding in nearly all his roles. I thought he was especially good in The Postman Always Rings Twice. And speaking of blacklisting, he ran into some trouble during that era caused by overzealous witch hunters. I think the stress of HUAC investigations contributed to his early death at age 39.

Yes, the chemistry between Garfield and Lana Turner was positively sizzling in The Postman Always Rings Twice.
A particular favourite: Body and Soul, a superb performance, one of the best boxing movies.
Yes, his life was short, and had a terribly sad end. I am glad that many people, from what I have seen, now consider him one of the great actors of his era as it seems he was under appreciated in his day.
