Shane Black has a certain flair for characters that often transcends the screenplay. While I felt that the movie was just okay, Ryan Gosling, Russell Crowe, and David Keith were a blast to watch with winning dialog and funny scenes. Black rarely disappoints (coughironmanthreecough) which gives me hope for the Predator reboot even if the cast photos don't.
The plot wasn’t great but the leads were, it had a kinda comedy to it reminiscent of Beverly Hills Cop and Lethal Weapon, I hope they'll make a sequel.
First time around, on a watching a year ago, I gave this a 6/10... watched again tonight and bumped it to 8/10. Maybe it's the mood your in that makes the rating. David Keith was so cool and awesome. The first scene he was in was perfect, he got it his partner didn't. If you haven't seen "Men At Work" do so, his character and the way he played it was AWESOME. Liked Gosling but loved Russell he nailed it. Watching this made me think of "Midnight Run" the banter and stuff. Wait a second..... don't say "and stuff".
and they definitely need a sequel, with a bit of development to where Gosling's character has grown out of his drinking. That kind of wore on me.
If anyone liked this movie I promise you'll love "Midnight Run".
I hated it! It wasn't fun at all, and the acting was corny and wierd. I have no idea why people like this. Maybe it is because I am from Scandinavia... I dunno
I saw a bit of the party/orgy scene as the movie was ending, and I decided to set the DVR when it appeared again. I can see why there's buzz about a sequel; it's an interesting mish-mash/not-exactly-buddies crime drama that works. The players hit their marks, from the apparently-worst-private-detective to the "leg breaker-for-hire" to the junior "Samantha Spade." The state of Georgia has "that 70's look" in the locations, cars, and Zeitgeist. I've seen quite a number of highly hyped movies that "failed to deliver the goods," so even if "The Nice Guys" isn't Criterion Collection material, it's a cut above. As an example, "Atonement" was praised to the skies, but it left me a tad deflated when the "happy ending" seen in trailers turned out to be fantasy. As for "Ad Astra," it's OK, another interesting tale along the lines of "Contact" or "Another Earth." As for "Midnight Run," that "this-kid-belongs-in-another-world/dimension" was SF enough.
Decent enough. Comedy elements pretty hit and miss but raised quite a few titters in the first half. Needlessly long, especially with gags being spread a bit thin. With a little editing this could have been very strong.
Suffered from the problem of many a comedy action film in that it seems to think there is no requirement for a bit of effort on the plot.

March "Hey shoot me, shoot me, shoot me, shoot me, fucking shoot me."
Pocahontas "Woo that was great" laughs and claps and just wanders off.
and just the slurring of "Pikishnerov"
Definitely recommend this movie.

March: "You, you're not a murderer"... Healy: "She killed three people"... March: "I'm saying deep down"

I didn't like it. Started promising but just got more and more outrageous and unrealistic and dumb. It also dragged on.

It was OK, only really worth the watch for the chemistry between Gosling and Crowe. Otherwise it's like Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.
Didn't realise Crowe cannot do an American accent though, it was on and off in this!

I really liked it but it had a lot of similarities to Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, another Shane Black story. That kind of bugs me.
