Item: The Vampires or, The Arch Criminals of Paris
Language: en-US
Type of Problem: Incorrect_content
Extra Details: Can someone explain this title to me that u/midnightmark made? A search of "The Vampires or, The Arch Criminals of Paris" seems to only show sites that pull from TMDB API. This is a really famous film so ideally there should be a good reason for this change. Did it really premiere in an English country first as "The Vampires or, The Arch Criminals of Paris?" Previous mods have looked at this time and time again as Les Vampires and never changed it.
In 1965 this premiered in the US as "Vampires" according to the NYT archive (https://www.nytimes.com/1965/09/14/archives/film-festival-vampires1915-french-serial-in-10-episodes-shown-in-a.html) or "The Vampires." BAMPFA (https://bampfa.org/event/les-vampires-vampires-episodes-1-4)says this was the US premiere so shouldn't that be the title? I actually prefer Les Vampires because that's what the entire world calls it. Heck, this is #4 in 1001 Movies as Les Vampire.
Regardless it's frustrating there's no talk page like Wikipedia and major films like this can be changed, locked, and sent out into the void to permanently mark the internet landscape. If there is a good explanation that'd be awesome because obviously, that's some good scholarship, but the source of this title should be shared.

Yeah, can we please get this changed back to Les Vampires or at the very least cut "The Arch Criminals of Paris" out?

None of the releases indicated here are the first one. This movie serial was just rediscovered in 1965.
According to IMDB, its original US release took place on November 23, 1916. The title used is visible on the bottom of this advertisement page of a 1916 magazine.
You can also read this other content report where the user acknowledge himself that it was the original US title.
