I thought it was depressing, unrealistic and horrifying. For a movie that looked to be more of a Oscar contender; it almost put me to sleep.
If the events that played out in this movie really did happen and was very much like how it was depicted in this movie; I have to say I'm very thankful were past this point and we're able to live today in the way we do because of other's who have sacrificed so much.

I'm not sure how you could call this unrealistic. I thought it portrayed that time well; both sides being savage to each other. The scary thing is people haven't really changed that much.
You're right though, it was slow but I didn't mind that.

Funny; I never said it was slow in my post above, but since you brought it up...I'd have to say I agree it was slow, and like yourself; I didn't mind that.
I felt the movie was unrealistic in the way Army Capt. Joseph Blocker kept running into the same people in those vast open spaces of land. Other than that: I thought it was well done.
Lol sorry not sure why I thought you said slow. Probably mistook it for boring as this is what you implied with saying it put you to sleep. Either way, I can see it won't be a lot of people's cup of tea :)
I'll be honest, I didn't notice Captain Blocker encountering the same people, except those killer native Americans. But I thought the group was being tracked by them?
The only thing I would say that seemed unrealistic was the amicable nature Blocker and Yellow Hawk interacted because they mentioned several times that they were in a bloody battle against each other.

It's been a few months since I've seen the film and I've seen a lot of movies since then. I think your right; it was those killer native Americans that kept pissing me off. It's like every time they turned around they were there messing up their plans. It was like having a pain in the neck or a thorn in my side every time I saw them! I just kept thinking what were the chances of running into them. At least in this movie...evidently 100%!
