VFX were very nice. Too bad it's kind of impossible to believe advanced hunter/killer bots without thermal cameras.

Probably more of a budget restraint than anything else

I'd say lazy writing more than anything else. It's easy to apply a filter to the bot footage to make it look like thermal imaging.
