I too thought the title was wrong even to the point I created a report. I have subsequently deleted it after searching more authoritative sources, specifically this one: 2010.
I have nit, though. The poster image shows "made" contact. I have seen posters with "make" contact. It kind of depends on whether if it is present tense or past tense. Since the movie was made in 1984 looking into the future to 2010, I doubt they are telling a story about the past. So I would presume that the word is "make" and not "made". But then again, who cares - the subtitle is not part of the official title.
One last note. The Alternate Titles section of the Details tab on the AFI page does have "2010: The Year We Make Contact" as well as 2 others. They are clearly identified as "alternate".

And despite my memory, I very much remember the voice at the end of this TV commercial saying "2010: The Year We Make Contact" when this came out:

I'm all in favor of keeping "2010" the "final" title of this entry, but I would cast my vote for putting "2010: The Year We Make Contact" under "Original Title" (for historical purposes).
It also seems to keep in line with how the books/movie series were made (Title: Subtitle):
Books:
2001: A Space Odyssey //
2010: Odyssey Two //
2061: Odyssey Three //
3001: The Final Odyssey //
Movies:
2001: A Space Odyssey //
2010: The Year We Make Contact

Do you think "2010: The Year We Made Contact" was the original title?
I mostly found evidence pointing in the other direction

IDMB tends to agree with that statement: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086837/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0

Just my two cents...
