If you snagged anything on a nail on your steps, a normal person would take care of that right away.... now, if you're going to go barefoot 24/7 then you would definitely know the condition of your floors and steps and that nail would have never been there...
Also, that nail never would have been there anyway... a nail coming up from the bottom, right in the middle of a step that has no other support or anything to be nailed together there... sabotage or just bad writing. :)

I know; and why didn't they ever fix it? Muffle the head of a hammer and hammer it down flat, or get underneath the stairs and pull it out with a claw hammer; even a pair of pliers would bend it down so it wouldn't stick straight up. But even in the sequel, that stupid nail's still there.
