Coming of age done right

Sure, it's by the numbers 'coming of age', but it's done with charm, humour and just the right dosage of schmalz (i.e. not much).
I didn't know Richard Ayoade wrote and directed films and it's a shame his talent hasn't produced more. Still, with this he has achieved more in film than most.

I enjoyed this a lot and picked up the DVD some time after seeing it. I still haven't given it a second watch but may do so soon. Craig Roberts really is wonderfully cast in this - his deadpan reactions and line deliveries are perfect for this character. 7/10
