One of my all-time favourite film performances. Landau brought humour, pathos and genuine affection to his performance as Bela Lugosi. The heart and soul of one of the best and most moving films of the 1990s. RIP, Mr. Landau.

Couldn't agree more. He was fantastic. The best part of a great film.

I also really liked him in this movie. Although, Dolores Fuller said Bela never cussed like that which was quite funny in the film.

Burton admitted they embellished some things. Lugosi also wasn't the one to get in the water with the octopus. That was an obvious stunt person if you see the movie. The visit with Orson Welles also never happened, as far as we know. I suppose they might have met at some point, though.
Most of the things that happen in the movie were based on reality though, even if the details aren't accurate.
