Sounds like you're probably not a fan of Lovecraft? From what I've heard of the film, it makes an effort to stay true to the original short story. Everything ain't for everyone, I guess.
Nick Cage wouldn't be Nick Cage if he didn't sign off on everything that came his way. I'm a fan of Lovecraft but his particular brand of supernatural horror rarely translates well into film. Plus it it sounds like it's going to be played with comedy so what is that going to be like?
Well, I watched maybe the first 20 minutes or so and it's not a comedy. Just weird. I'm ok with "weird" if there's some kind of rationale behind it, but this is just weird for the sake of being weird in my opinion. And Tommy Chong is in it who I guess IS a comic relief of sorts.
Well that just sounds bad. Having Nick Cage in a film is getting to be the mark of questionable quality. And Tommy Chong that's something else. Where had he been ?

You can say that again. I watched a terrible movie the other day, only to find out afterward that Nicolas Cage was originally slated to star, but dropped out and had to be replaced - Gary Oldman filled in. The movie fit Cage's current trend perfectly.
Had to go look it up. It was Mary (2019). You'd think with a title that simple, I'd be able to remember it; but the movie really was that forgettable and bad. I spent half the time wondering how in the hell Gary Oldman wound up in such a throw-away movie, but when I read that he replaced Nick Cage I realized that the whole thing fit Cage like a glove.
Oh, ok, well, it sounds as bad as Killers Anonymous, hahaha. One thing I know about actors is, they live to act. If a great actor like Oldman is taking roles in these sh!t films, it's probably because he's not getting better offers.
Cage was also in a 2019 film called Mandy. He was in a short film called Mother Mary as well. Another upcoming Cage film is Pig where he has a truffle hunting pig.

I've heard decent things about the movie, and have been planning to see it when it's available. What issue did you find with the movie?

Crazy, nebulous sh!t from space causing a bunch of crazy, nebulous random issues with Earth beings. It's nonsense. Not a fan of nonsense.

Will probably still give it a watch when I can.

Oh, no, I have no interest in fantasy. Sci-fi, yeah, but not fantasy.

Cage is also supposed to play himself in a film Nick Cage plays Nick Cage in "The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent"

Just based on the name, I feel like 'Nick Cage plays Nick Cage' is going to be a budget version of 'Being John Malkovich."

It seems Nic Cage is turning into Eric Roberts.
