Discuss Don't Look Up

Great disappointment

Despite a great cast, the film does not know which path to take. If it was supposed to be a grotesque satire that takes aim at those who govern us, it fails miserably. Meryl Streep's character (the President) is absolutely ridiculous as are most of the supporting characters. The only one to save himself is Leonardo Di Caprio who infuses his role with all the anxieties and fears of an imminent catastrophe. The analogy with Dr. Strangelove is there, but unlike Kubrick's masterpiece, this film once seen (and with many yawns) falls into oblivion.

Well, looking at what's happening since January 2025, this movie more and more seems to be prophetic.... All of what's depicted in the film basically came true: a rather dumb president who gives a s**t about facts, an autistic super rich entrepreneur who thinks he and his ideas will save the world - ehm sorry, make him richer, and a huge mass of followers who will believe in facts and science only when they jump in their face - when it's too late. Dumdidum....let's see how it's going to turn out in reality, but a happy end is highly unlikely, it seems.
