So he was a part of Lord Voldermont's soul. I didn't get that as I never read the books, but he isn't his parent nor did he possess him

okay. Tom Riddle is Voldermort when he was younger. As a powerful wizard he was able to preserve part of his soul in different objects so he can resurrect one day.

So that is why he takes many forms first as a teacher, next as a not and later as a creature who was so hollow and creepy

He was on the back of the professor's head, no body. Then he gets a body again in the fourth movie.
