Why did everyone hate Eva?

Every time I watch this movie I have the same question: Why did they hate Eva for what her son did?
It's not her fault. She didn't want it to happen. She felt horrible about what had happened. She would have stopped it if she could.
I'm actually reading the book now, so maybe that will also shed some light.
I wonder if the parents of the Columbine boys experienced similar hatred from other parents in their community.

That's just society. That's people. I find that a lot of people aren't very good at looking at things in an objective way. They think and judge with their emotions. The interesting angle on the subject matter was what made the film so fascinating.
I was intending to read the book myself soon. What's it like so far?

I'd understand the people hating her, it's only natural, but considering he murdered even her daughter and husband you would really need to be blind still hating her.

Yeah, it wasn’t like she coached him to do these horrible things. I think people just need to blame someone for it so they took it out on her, all except for that one guy in the wheelchair.

Yes this is true but with murderers, society looks at the parents and how they brought up their child. Nurture, basically.
Also IIRC when he was growing up she was very cold to him and wasn't very loving (even isolating him). Not that that turns kids into murderers, but would that play a part?

I think he was already FUBAR when she started behaving like that, he was clearly born that way and she gave up much much later and tried a lot before. Never understood why they didn't have divorce with her keeping daughter and father keeping psycho, maybe it wouldn't change outcome, but at least maybe people wouldn't blame her.

What made it clear that he was born that way? I'm not doubting that there may be a "psycho killer gene", or whether the writer/filmmakers are implying this is the case for Kevin, but I don't recall it being obvious that he was a psycho kid to begin with. In fact, I think the mum appeared resistant/reluctant at parenthood which implied to me that maybe this aided his behaviour.
I don't know, in general I do think nature and nurture play a part, it's not wholly one or the other.
