Great movie, unrealistic ending

Why didn't he give his daughter the $20M in diamonds to help her and her humanitarian endeavors? what happened was not neither his or Mia's fault , they were tricked and conned into it, it all was just a swindle, couldn't they live with that and be about their lives?

The first half of the film is intriguing and compelling, but thereafter the characters do unpredictable, absurd, and inexplicable things... and the film loses its logic.
