Why can't more romantic comedies be shot this way? To look like movies rather than TV?
It's visually so appealing, so much better than the over-lit, cookie-cutter style that is applied to most romantic comedies and to most comedies in general...
I love it that Ridley Scott, a sci-fi director, has made what is probably the best romantic comedy of the past 30 years... Just because he cast proper actors, shot them nicely and didn't emasculate the male lead which is a hollywood trope that tends to kill romance in most romantic comedies...

I really enjoyed this movie. What surprised me most was Russell Crowe. I'm not really a fan of his and don't go out of my way to watch his movies until I accidentally saw the trailer. Russell actually played a really likable man in this. I am not used to seeing him as a romantic lead.

We watched this with another couple... the women were both really surprised by Crowe as well... They were always used to seeing him as a brute or as an intense older man...
He has the right kind of charm in this film, where you'd actually believe that women would go for him... that's something you don't see in most romantic comedies where the lead is some hapless manchild or nerd... I liked seeing a mature portrayal of a man falling for someone... it's refreshing...
I could relate as well, as I went through a period where I had to reevaluate my life and start to prioritise living over managing my next career/business move... it was a nice touch...
