He was not always like this, back in the days in 90s his movies were pretty much contemporary, but further we get from 80s/90s period further they drift into past. I mean I was shocked to see the woman pulling out mobile phone, but the whole plot about losing her number didn't make sense since even quite poor people in 90s have already dumb phone and she is clearly poor as him, so it was common to just ring the other party to have her number. And if this was supposed to be 80s/early 90s then she should not have mobile phone at all + we see quite new laptop she rented in shop for 8EUR/30mins and euro didn't exist clearly until 1999 when even me in high school had already mobile phone. So why intentionally detach from reality, I get he goes for that poor depressed Finland feel, but it's just becoming more and more fantasy than real if he doesn't clearly put it in 80s/early 90s, which he could, he could just remove scene with mobile phone and renting the laptop and whole movie would work.
It was decent movie with few funny scenes (notice period was great), but far from his best. But hey at least no woke/gay BS.

This movie IS NOT SET IN THE 90s! It is set in modern-day Helsinki.

I'm pretty sure that's not how modern-day Helsinki looks unless you are specifically looking for the most depressing places and as I said I am aware it's not set in the 90s since the laptop and phone would not make sense there, but if they removed them it would make more sense to set it in 90s since it's out of touch with reality
