Prolific film composer Ennio Morricone has died at age 91. CNN is saying it was due to complications from a recent fall. Morricone scored hundreds of films, including for The Thing and the iconic The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. Although he had once criticized writer-director Quentin Tarantino's use of music, Morricone would compose the score for Tarantino's 2015 film The Hateful Eight.
What a contribution to cinema this man made. May he rest in peace....

Here is the theme to The Good, the Bad and the Ugly -- arguably, Morricone's most famous one.

Definitely was a superb musical craftsman.
RIP.
FYI: Whenever I remember to tune in, I very much enjoy National Public Radio's (NPR's) excellent weekend afternoons 1-hour show The Score. Music of Ennio Morricone has been featured in a number of episodes. I highly recommend that show for anyone who's a fan of great film scores. Here's the link, for more info (and the two most recent broadcasts). The show's broadcast pretty much everywhere nationwide, on NPR stations; just tune in to your local classical music station.

Addio Maestro, questo grande genio musicale. Grazie per i tuoi magnifici opere. Oggi tutta l'Italia piange la perdita di un grande figlio. Ci mancherai moltissimo. Addio. R.I.P.

This is a piece by Morricone that sticks with me to this very day -- "Paranoia Prima," which I first heard in Tarantino's Death Proof . It makes me nervous just to hear it.
