Her eyes were so mesmerizing, that they were later immortalized in the song "Bette Davis Eyes", originally composed by singer-song writers Donna Weiss and Jackie DeShannon in 1974. When the singer Kim Carnes recorded her own version of the song in 1981, it became an instant hit. Bette Davis later thanked them in a letter for "making her a part of modern times",
In all the photos I've seen, even those of her at a young age, her eyes are the first things I notice. What do you think?

Absolutely agree, they sure are mesmerising. I love the song too. It's one of my favourite sing in the shower songs for some reason.

Great song. I'm also fond of 'Dickie Davis Eyes' by satirical rock band Half Man Half Biscuit, a tribute to the 1980s British TV sports presenter.
As for Bette's eyes, they were two of a kind. Once cannot take one's, er, eyes off them. Davis is one of the great iconic movie stars, as much to do with her striking look as her (phenomenal) talent.

I don't think Bette ever "did" eyes better than in Of Human Bondage. No doubt everyone reading this knows the exact two scenes I'm referring to in that film. As I recall, in each Bette's looking up, from the table, with her huge, beautiful eyes, and very long lashes, and you think, "WOW!!!" I can't think of anyone (not even Bette), in any other film, of throughout all of film history, who gave a more dazzlingly memorable "eyes" performance than did Bette in Of Human Bondage!
Just the other week I watched Kim Carnes' "Bette Davis Eyes" music video again, for the first time in probably several years. That song and its video still definitely totally holds up!
