She'd now be 109. So glad that Miss Davis existed and that she gave the world so many of her terrific films to savour!

Just watched In This our Life, where she plays a spoilt brat. The mother annoyed me so much, Stanley (Bette) could do no wrong in her eyes no matter what horrible things she did. And Dead Ringer, where she murders her twin sister and takes over her life.
I love Bette when she plays evil, she is so good at it

Agree wholeheartedly! My favourites of Bette's many great performances are The Letter and The Little Foxes.
The sequence with her husband (Herbert Marshall) on the stairs in the latter is one of the most dazzlingly-acted portrayals of pure maliciousness I have ever seen - anyone who has seen it knows of which scene I speak.

I'm a fan of Pre-Code Bette. She was sweet, delicate, and pretty, but had a tremendous amount of presence and scene command, and could hold her own, in a gentle sort of way, alongside a movie's stars. The brassy/tough side of her hadn't at all yet started coming out, though she still always readily stood out, and never faded into the scenery.
