I just heard about Richard Hatch's passing away last week of pancreatic cancer at age 71. I'll miss him. He was one of the male sex-symbols of the late 1970s, when he starred in Battlestar Galactica (which I never actually watched). I do remember him, though, from his appearances on popular TV shows, and television movies from the early 1970s. He and his co-stars did a nice job on the little early 1970s movie "Best Friends", an obscure little drive-in film that used to be shown occasionally on late night TV, and can now be seen on You Tube. I don't think that movie ever received as much credit as it deserved. Judging from his movie-site resume, Richard remained active in acting for many years, right up until last year, though I hadn't been aware of that, and haven't seen anything with him in it since his heyday in the 70s. He was one of the young, attractive male actors who briefly achieved a measure of fame in the seventies, and he deserves credit for helping to define some of the TV shows and movies from that era.
I've only just found out today about Richard's death. Incredibly sad. I'd actually just bought one of his films today when I read it. Have to admit he was one of my first crushes in Battlestar and Streets of San Francisco. Very sad
Damn. I am saddened to learn of Richard Hatch's passing. I didn't even know he had been sick.
As I grow older, more and more of the people I watched during my childhood are passing on, especially in recent months with the loss of Carrie Fisher, Bill Paxton, and now Richard. Time is relentless, and death is a bitch. So appreciate your time, make now the most precious of times.
RIP, Richard.
