Discuss Robbie Robertson

These just seem to keep happening more often and nearer in between... Robbie Robertson, lead guitarist of the rock group The Band and film composer, is deceased at 80. Robertson had recently completed working on Martin Scorsese's upcoming feature film, Killers of the Flower Moon, according to CNN.

I figure Scorsese must be affected by this; Robertson and his Band mates were also given arguably proper treatment in his 1978 film The Last Waltz.

Damn. RIP.

Somewhere Down the Crazy River was such a chill tune... On my karaoke list. I'm feeling blue over this news...

Tell me about it... my sincerest condolences go out to Mr. Robertson's family and Mr. Scorsese.

Not sure about that - Didn't the rest of them come to resent Robbie for the inflated status and treatment he got by Scorsese during that period?

Can't remember all the details but I'm pretty sure they wanted to present it more or less as Robbie Robertson And The Band and credit Robertson as the main driving influence.

Honestly, I haven't seen the film in some decades. I don't really want to do your "homework" for you, seeing as how lol the film was just OK to me... please let me know.

Sorry, I don't get you - What do you want me to let you know?

Midi-chlorian Count, it's not what I want you to let me know--I cannot answer your question for you when I haven't seen the film in over 20 years. Was the question in your previous post a rhetorical one?

I recall more of The Band's members than Robertson appearing in The Last Waltz.

Sorry maybe I didn't make it clear but I wasn't talking about in the film itself, I was talking about in real life.

I haven't seen the film for long time either but what I was trying to remember was the aftermath of the film on them in real life. For example, I remember Levon Helm pretty much despised Robbie Robertson for the way he'd cozied up with Scorsese and tried to make it he was the chief songwriter. Helm insisted a lot of the stuff from The Band album, which featured heavily in The Last Waltz was fully collaborative - written during their Woodstock period - and that Robertson had stolen the credit.

What I can't remember offhand is how the others felt about it or whether they were as outspoken. I'm pretty sure both Manuel and Danko died relatively surprisingly penniless, having been in such an important band.

Thanks - Didn't remember all the details but this is pretty sad:-

Helm was also dissatisfied with Manuel and Hudson's minimal screen time and the fact most of the band members never received any money for the various home videos, DVDs and soundtracks released by Warner Bros. after the project.

Right, well, just being honest: I saw Scorsese's film and didn't like it much. I'm just a completist about these kinds of things sometimes. The Band played a style or styles of rock music that I didn't really care for. So it should come as no surprise that you know more about them than I do.

OK, thanks for the heads up.

The operative word in that second clause is arguably.
