Discuss Burt Bacharach

Burt Bacharach is definitely one of the great pop music composers/songwriters of the 20th century. He - mostly with writing partner Hal David - wrote a long string of songs that several of went to either #1 on the charts or close to it. The best-known songs are:

Such memorable, unique songs. Dionne Warwick became a huge star singing Bacharach-David numbers.

At any rate, from the 1950s through '80s, Burt Bacharach definitely had the magic touch with pop music, and could do no wrong.

I've presented YouTube videos for song renditions that I think particularly effectively showcase the overall body of music. They're great performances, by an array of terrific artists. Enjoy.

Right, Burt Bacharach sure shares a lot of talent with many of those great recording artists, from the Carpenters to Tom Jones, from Ronnie Milsap to Herb Alpert, from Dionne Warwick to The 5th Dimension, from Linda Ronstadt to B. J. Thomas, and many of those original renditions receive plenty of cover versions.

(There's) Always Something There to Remind Me receives a good 1980's treatment by Naked Eyes, and then there's an 80's Promises, Promises.

By the way, Burt Bacharach was once married to the lovely Angie Dickinson.

I had forgotten that Burt was married to Angie Dickinson. They were definitely one of the major showbiz "It" couples back in the day. (Checking just now, I see they were married to one another 1965-1981.) I remember also the Carole Bayer Sager marriage (which I see was 1982-1991).

From as far back as I can remember (which is some point during the '60s) to all the way through the '80s, there seemed to most of the time be one or more Bacharach song currently on the charts. Good stuff. Definite "life soundtrack" material. Burt's hit streak (usually writing collaborations with either Hal David or, later, wife Carole) finally fizzled after the '80s.

PBS aired an excellent documentary about him and his music as part of its "My Music" pledge breaks music specials series five or so years ago (I caught it, again, in rerun, sometime during recent months). Enjoyed it very much.
