Looks like the movie will be released as two full-length films with different release dates: http://www.indiewire.com/article/von-triers-nymphomaniac-divided-in-two-sets-release-date.
Should this be cloned and made to two parts? As far as I've seen the release in Denmark is not split into two..?

Yes, this is a bit of a problem. So far I've deleted a second part twice when it was added, just to wait and see what happens, but I haven't had time to discuss it with the other moderators.
Personally, I think it still makes a lot of sense to keep it as one entry, but I'm sure there could be a strong argument made for the opposite as well.

Now I noticed that the two parts had been added and I see what you mean. Unfortunately at this time we do not support different cuts of the same movie and that's why I had to delete those two parts just now.

Imho it would be better to have them as a two parter since it will be released as such world wide whereas the long version is only for DK and probably festivals. What would go against that is the fact that this was just for the release since von Trier did itend it to be one piece. It would also be alot easier to manage on the site.

Then we would have to delete the main entry and that's something I don't like...
It's possible to add part 1 and part 2 as alternative titles to the main entry until we have decided how to solve this. I know Travis plans to add support for different versions of the same movie, but I'm not sure when that is going to happen.

It looks like perhaps this is being released as two separate films, here's an entry on IMDB for Volume II: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2382009/
I'm thinking we should just adopt the "volume 1", "volume 2" format for these and have the 2 films added independently.

Yes, maybe that's the easiest. In Sweden it will be shown in cinemas as one 4 hour movie, the same as in Denmark. In the US it will be in two parts (maybe they don't believe people have the stamina for a 240 min movie).
And soon the uncut versions will arrive as well.
A similar issue is The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby, which is one movie made in two parts and used to have two IMDB entries (but now there is only one). Perhaps our two entries (Him and Her) should also be made into one?

This may not be a perfect parallel as it's comprised of different stories unlike Nymphomaniac and Rigby, but Grindhouse was released in certain territories (including U.S.) as one presentation, while it was divided into two separate films (Death Proof and Planet Terror) in other territories. Grindhouse, Death Proof, and Planet Terror all have their own unique IMDb entries.
Currently, TMDb has entries for the individual entries Death Proof and Planet Terror, but there is noticeably no TMDb film entry for the "two part" film Grindhouse despite it being commercially exhibited in this format in some territories; Grindhouse is instead designated as a 'collection' in TMDb. This seems to set a precedent that TMDb considers presentations comprised of multiple feature films as separate entries, which are then grouped under a 'collection'.

Grindhouse is not allowed since we currently don't support different versions of the same movie. And since we already have Death Proof and Planet Terror in the database, Grindhouse becomes a duplicate of those. I think this exact case has been discussed in the past.
A similar case is when the first two episodes of a TV-series is released as one movie in some country. It will still be deleted because of TV-content.
Or when someone adds a Criterion release with three movies as one entry.
(EDIT: I'm not sure if the Grindhouse collection is correct. Probably not. Too tired to investigate it now.)

I think Grindhouse is indeed a different kind of animal than the twp separate films, since it has trailers added to it (and it's a different cinematic experience). As far as I've understood the complete nymphomaniac has an extra 1,5 hours added, making it a different movie as well. TMDB does seem to allow Superman II and Superman II - The Richard Donner Cut. Wouldn't this situation be comparable?
