The Movie Database Support

Imported my titles from IMDb. I know some users mentioned that a few titles were missing, but as far as I can tell, everything of mine imported just fine. Here are my thoughts so far:

I haven't updated my watchlist in a long time and wanted to rate the titles I've seen, but I have to click on each title in order to rate it. Moreover, I have to click on the movie to see what I rated it since hovering over the title just gives me the TMDb rating. Ideally, hovering over the title would give both.

It's slightly tedious to go through the watchlist, since you can't jump to a specific page. The option to include more titles per page, which combined with the ability to select a specific page, would help those with big libraries.

Are ratings and watchlists public or private? Can they be turned on or off?

Other than, I'm happy with the amount of titles and the ability to filter them by date, popularity, etc.

all lists are by default private, you can make them public in your account settings under Sharing

i agree lists could use compact list view, display rating and more sorting options by:

  • my rating
  • runtime
  • chronological by date of rating or adding to list

Absolutely. I also hate the fact that titles are displayed side by side instead of underneath each other(in every view). But I've been waiting to see if I get used to it before moaning about it.

My wishlist:

  • Nested view option for forum posts, which will necessitate...
  • Direct reply to user post, which should allow..
  • Email notifications only to replies to YOU, or your OP, not the whole thread just because you responded once (WAY too spammy). I don't need to know that Soandso replied to Whatshisface, I want to know when people reply to ME (usually so I can defend myself, lol).
  • Predictive search bar for title/actor in the header of EVERY page, including forums.

I think nesting actually makes threads incredibly messy. It would be better to just be able to put a tag with @username and the person get's notified that way.

That puts the burden on the "replier", unless it's an automatic behind-the scenes function. And even if it is behind the scenes, the current "quote" button will need to be re-branded or supplemented with a "reply" button (i.e. the quote button would be "Reply with Quote" and a new curve back arrrow button being simply "Reply" (without quote - essentially a hidden @username reference). While I respect that you find nesting messy, I find huge quote blocks when people write a novel equally, if not more, messy.

I actually the reply and quote together a bit annoying. If I want to quote someone, I will simply highlight the text and copy it(although I quote button would be nice to save typing the code). I never quote a whole post, and I also find it annoying when other people do. Quoting should only be used to make it clear which point you are replying to when there is any amiguity.

The thing is with nesting, it splits up the thread, and you often get two or three people going back and forth, and if you reply to a post that was made earlier, it gets buried pages back in the thread behind the nested conversation. It may be a little bit more convenient, but I think it also kills conversations to some extent, because people tend to end up just replying to the part of the thread that their conversation is nested in.
