The Movie Database Support

So I'm re-indexing my NAS and I have the 2009 show Kings. Which prior to using tmdb gave me the correct data. Now that im only using TMDB, it gives me incorrect data

Kings Ep1/2 gave me Breakout Kings. Ep3 gave me Pair of Kings as the show. Now i notice when i search the website for 'kings' and select TV shows, despite having a show with that exact name, its not top of the search results. Those two shows appear before the correct show. Im thinking if the API uses the same search results, this could explain why so many are coming up incorrect. My Macgyver episodes from 1985 come up as 2016. 2016 rates higher in your search results.

I dont think theres much you can do about macgyver in this respect because its an identical name, despite my references in the file/folder structure to the year, but clearly the website search results are not geared towards the closest match being top of the list. Is that something that can be fixed?

Is your NAS a Synology NAS/DS Video by any chance?

I think this subject should be in API Support.
So I'm going to move this conversation to API Support.

It was more i think the search feature on the site is an issue. If i can't get an expected result searching directly on the site, then i don't expect the API to give me the correct results because I assume both use the same search function. So if the website search is fixed....

Many homonyms.
There are plans to refine using exact term.
It will take time I believe.
But in the case of Macgyver it doesn't work.
Perhaps adding the year will lessen the problem.
On the website you can use Macgyver y:2016
For your NAS it depends on which tool you are using.

Iv tried that with Macgyver, and i worked out my previous issue with the file moving shows. The more the API fails to provide the correct data, the more i learn. And it happens a lot. My NAS was putting Macgyver in the show it thought it was based on the file/folder structure. Then the API comes back and says that's wrong so it moves it.

Beauty and the Geek. Your API returns beauty and the geek australia. Its not the same show. Its not the closest match. Just like Kings. Its named exactly as your site lists the show yet you cannot return a correct result. The previous API i used, which is no longer operating with synology/at all didnt have these mismatches.

This site cannot seem to get it right. Im running out of disk space and need to shuffle things around, and the more I do so, the more i have to fix because TMDB cannot deliver the correct results despite the naming being exact.

Prior to your comment, it was unclear if the problem was with Synology NAS.
But from your answer today I believe it is.
And in this case I suggest you read these two conversations below.
See if any of these threads can help solve your problem.

The previous API i used, ...

Just a curiosity of mine.
What API service were you using previously?

I dont know how you can possibly believe this. The ONLY issue i have is this api will not return the correct show. I know this for a FACT now. Its taken me a while to work out whats been going on, but it has nothing to do with synology and everything to do with this site returning incorrect data. No, it doesnt happen all the time. Just enough to annoy the crap out of people. Do a search on HERE and it doesnt give you the correct show as the first response for the shows causing issues. That has nothing to do with my NAS

There used to be i think 2 other api's. I dont recall the first one that stopped but the last one was tvdb.com. They shut their older API's down in 2021.

Since my NAS has only 1G of RAM soldered on the motherboard, i cant upgrade that and get DSM 7.0 which apparently gives me more search options, so im stuck with TMDB. I'd love for this site to fix their issues.

Heres a mention from some other synology users as to what happened when tvdb shut their api down: Well, This has completely screwed my TV shows. They all reindexed from the movie database and now all my episodes of MASH are now "the Mash Report". The TMDB service does not work for many TV shows and has inferior metadata for many more.

I'm sorry. I don't know how to help anymore.
Maybe if you contact Synology support.

Today I found a Synology user who got a solution.
Maybe it solves your problem.
