The Movie Database Support

Hi there! It would be amazing if a quick summary of the media item rating was available from the movie db.

A couple words to describe the kind of content found in the movie/tv show.

  1. Fear
  2. Drug use
  3. Alcohol Use
  4. Suggestive material (nudity/etc.)
  5. Language

It may help parents decide if the movie/tv show is actually appropriate for their kids or not.

checkboxes of kinds of material would be better than just a plain text description. When it's normalized it can be queried and filtered on.

I think this would be very helpful information to include.

Thank you for the consideration.

Ben

Yes, in line with the other guys expanding on the Certification.

MPAA Rated PG for action, mild violence, language and rude humor
MPAA Rated PG-13 for sequences of intense action, and some strong language
MPAA Rated R for violence, bloody images, language and some drug use

Looks like a ticket was made and marked invalid in this discussion. https://www.themoviedb.org/talk/54b28a1cc3a368210c001480

Hey guys, we’ve actually been talking about bringing this in before the end of the year. Stay tuned.

Hi Travis! I recently built an asp app that looked up a movie name from TMDB, then connected to gpt3 Davinci, and asked the bot if it could rate violence/fear, language, and some other content out of 5 for me. It did it. A lot of it!

Would you be interested in that data? It is currently organized by TMDB IDs

Hello, I'm new here and I discover the power of this great database. It's incredible :) I wanted to have an easy way to get Parental information about a movie. With user added information with sections like :

Fear Drug use Alcohol Use Suggestive material (nudity/etc.) Language

to be able to assure some movies are ok for children.

@travisbell you had told it could be available for the end of 2022, is the feature still in progress ?

That would be great and I feel that's the only intersting part missing compared to other databases :)

Thanks in advance Fred.

Hey @fvillemin, this was actually completed earlier this year. We support what we call "rating descriptors" for countries that use a standardized set list. This list varies by country and by media type but is available for the following:

  • Brazil: movies and TV
  • Canada: movies and TV
  • Germany: movies and tv
  • Finland: movies
  • Greece: TV
  • Netherlands: movies and TV
  • New Zealand: TV
  • Puerto Rico: TV
  • Turkey: movies and TV
  • U.S.: TV
  • Virgin Islands: TV
  • South Africa: Movies and TV

If there is some countries with a set list that we are missing you can add them to the list found here. I try to get to that thread every few months for updates.

Hello @travisbell

thanks for your answer.

I understand there is just the official ratings for countries but there is no list of details for Violence/Gore/Nudity information ?

I presume it is not planned to do that, is it ?

Thanks

No, something free form is not planned. We're going to keep this data set locked to each country's certification authority.

Is this released to the API yet?
