Runtime can be entered at both the series and episode level. For shows with variable runtime per episode it is better to enter the value for each episode instead of setting multiple values on the series. For shows with a consistent runtime, it's better to enter a single value on the series. Runtimes can then be backfilled to the episode periodically.

I believe the main runtime field for Breaking Bad should be locked blank, but I'll wait for another moderator to confirm this. Thanks.

Thinking about it, it could be better. The alternative website I use for serie and movies, that is Trakt.tv, uses now the runtime for every episode, so... let me know so that I could update some italian shows I usually maintain on your website.

Well, as far as I'm concerned, luckly the site that interfaces with my HTPC uses the API that provide the runtime for each episode and does not consider the main runtime field API. I'm happy like that and this is not an issue for me anymore, so you can close this discussion.

If it's OK with you, I would like to get a mod opinion about whether the runtime field should be locked blank. If so, I can leave this topic open for a while longer.
