Father Gabriel was in Starship Troopers the best dumb cheesy sci-fi film ever. Therefore, by default he is a complete bad ass! And yes, the answer to the question is that Rick sees the potential added power that this group can give him, hence the smile. I hope this show picks up soon. It's been nothing more than a nonstop set up for war for the entire season so far. The writers of this show seemed to have forgotten how to weave sub plots into the show that could keep the show intesting while the overall story arch is happening.

I can respect your opinion but I am in complete disagreement. The writers HAVE kept the show interesting. Each episode has focused on its own story. Weaving is not required and would only interfere with a storyline that needs to remain separate.

Ask Travis. He has delivered on all of my request so far. He will personally send you his reply.

Either he saw potential allies in them, or he thought: "F... my life".

Perhaps it's because he sees Morales among the group and he was happy to see a friendly familiar face.

That would actually be kind of cool if they crossed paths with him again.

There's probably a better chance of Morales showing up on Fear the Walking Dead.

And there you have it. Now everyone knows why Rick was smiling. Spoken by Rick himself.
I don't think there's ever been a question from a fan that the character himself has answered.
Good one NortherLad. Good one. π

This too is especially for you NorthernLad.
Even Father Gabriel was wondering why Rick was smiling? π€
I swear that I thought of you during that scene of the "new best friends" episode.

I laughed when Gabriel outright asked him why he was smiling.

Ugh, there is no more nuance to the show. They hit you over the head with everything.
