I think the show has ran its course. I think it would be best for it to go out on a somewhat high note and end the show after the war. There should be laughter, there should be crying, and there should be pooping of pants but I think the show should come to a close. Maybe make next season the last.

Could be... But if the ratings are there, the cast is still there, and the comic continues to sell.... then it could go another 3 seasons. Heck M.A.S.H went 11, and there are plenty of other series still in production, namely "Always Sunny in Philadelphia" and "Supernatural".

Oh, in the land of Apple, Microsoft, Lexus, and whatever other company that I see advertising flashing on my screen as I FF through them to the next scene you can bet your ass that the show will continue until it is way beyond dead (pun intended). That has always been a problem artistically with commercial TV. They do not let the art dictate the end, they let the $ dictate the end and it often makes shows that coulda have been really great go sour. This is IMO the single most important factor of why shows on paid programming (Netflix, HBO, Showtime, etc) have an advantage over commercial TV. It is not the artistic freedom paid programming allows in violence and sex scenes, it is the artistic freedom to end the story when it is a good time to end the story.

The show can't end with multiple main characters still alive. The only way I personally see this ending is Rick, the last man standing, being trapped by walkers in a warehouse or something, and there is no possible escape.

they are so faaar away from the science or finding a cure etc. like what's happening in other areas like Washington?
or it can all end with Rick in the hospital..all a dream then sees Shane lol

If that happens I am seriously going ISIS on the producers. I personally think it should simply end with it showing a 10-year flash forward and seeing society slowly but surely coming back with walkers no longer a threat and most of them rotted away.

The majority of people do not like dismal endings, regardless of however realistic and regardless of the possible message. This show gives a ton of fan service even if it harms the story-telling element. Therefore, I do not think they will take this route. Personally, this ending does intrigue me.

I think you're on to something here. I'm usually not a fan of time jumps in TV shows, but given the overall themes of the show, I can see something similar to this happening.
