Discuss Orange Is the New Black

I just finished episode 4. The first episode was good, the next 3 seemed like very silly and bad filler. Has antrel watched the whole season yet? Does it get any better?

I wouldn't mind Leeann and Angie in small doses. But every five minutes they would appear and one of two things would happen: either they would want drugs or Leeann would be waving her bloody finger in the air while they harassed Pennsatucky. In theory, I like the idea of an Amish girl who fell into drugs. But in reality, I wish Leeann would drown in that bucket of bleach. I did, however, enjoy the talent show because it was different for their characters.

As to the Nazis, I wouldn't mind seeing their back stories. I am more interested in the one who isn't the giant with the face tattoo. I don't know what their names are, but she is the one who appears to be the smarter of the two. I would like to know a little about how she became what she is now.

Fair enough.

while they harassed Pennsatucky.

Spkg of whom, how sane would any of us be if we came from where she did?

Right?! This show really connected to as broad cross section of Americana as we may ever have seen to-date.

I'll bet focus groups are saying the same thing and we will get more of them In season 6. It's taken a while to work through to them, but that time was necessary to humanize them.

Ain't that the hell of it? This show really nails down the nurture side of the nature/nurture argument! Environment has, to a large extent, created the messes that are these women's lives, and the divisions by which they identifies either on entry or after having to find a gang to run with.

And in this season's last scene, it is - again - environment that defines their unity.

It ought to be really hard to wag a self-righteous finger about choices at any of the characters, or the real people they represent, about choices they made to get here.
