DS Debbie McAllister pays a cheeky visit to the superintendent's office but he plays it cool and explains their little liaison at the memorial service was just a one-off affair. He wants to concentrate on the station's reputation, and with the go ahead for a new Community Safety Unit his attention lies on police business. DC Danny Glaze and new recruit DC Eva Sharpe join forces to investigate a series of serious attacks on Eastern European taxi drivers. They have a solid piece of evidence against a suspect but he proves difficult to pin down. As PC Nick Klein recovers from his forced heroin overdose at the hands of Dennis Weaver's henchmen, Sgt. Dale Smith and PC Kerry Young try to prove Nick's innocence beyond doubt as his condition and his previous history with drugs make his testimony unreliable. Nick confronts DS Phil Hunter and accuses him of telling Weaver that he had been a drug addict. Polly Page's house is broken into, and she begins to suspect that her night of passion with journalist Frank Fisher may have been a big mistake as he is the main suspect, particularly after an expose on her murder trial appaers in the local paper. Kerry Young and PC Cameron Tait have a huge row at the pub after Smithy tells Tait that Young has slept with him and Nick Klein. As PC Gabriel Kent watches, Young accepts a lift home with Smithy.

The team discover just how many enemies Jason had following the fire at the bar. It is revealed that Jason and his father are slum landlords, forgers and drug dealers and that Jason's girlfriend has been seeing somebody else. Jason's father gives his son an alibi after Ali is beaten up. Smithy is determined to see them locked up.
