Mt. Thomas station is full of secrets. Maggie and PJ have come back from holidays deeply in love but determined that no one, especially Tom, will find out about their new relationship. Meanwhile, Nick and Adam have intercepted Dash's Confirmation Certificate as a fully-fledged constable in order to have it framed for a special presentation, and Tom and Chris are conspiring to organise a surprise celebration for Dash's 20th birthday. Into this web of intrigue comes a very distressed Elly Winslow, asking for police protection because her ex-husband, Danny Hobson, has just been released from prison in Queensland where he was serving time for sexually molesting his own son, and she is terrified that he will come looking for them.

Dash is somewhere out there in a bus with a group of school children, their teacher and an armed gunman, and the Heelers are feeling especially bad about it because they led Dash to believe that they've forgotten her birthday. When the bus is found abandoned, the Heelers must decipher both true and false clues in order to find the missing children.

Adam's mate, Wazza Tully, is in trouble; Mandy Barnes wants him charged with sexual assault after an incident at the Imperial where a drunken Wazza tried to grabs her breasts. Tom sends Adam to ""have a few words"" with his mate and warn him to stay off the grog - especially at the footy club fund-raising function tonight. The function features Justin de Carlo, an illusionist and stage hypnotist. All the Heelers are there, and some of them even find themselves up on stage as volunteers, as does Wazza. But when Justin suggests that his hypnotised volunteers go and kiss the person they fancy the most in the room, the whole town is astounded when Wazza heads straight for Adam and kisses him full on the lips! Although Tom is inclined to play down the situation the following morning, believing the less fuss the sooner it will be forgotten, Wazza demands police action, convinced that he has been tricked and defamed.

A new resident, Bob Barker, comes in to the station to report a burglary. This seems normal enough until Maggie and PJ realise that Bob has had, not his contents, but his whole house stolen. They go out to investigate the property which Bob claims he hasn't seen for five years (since his aunt left it to him in her will) and find only the stumps on which the house sat. The Heelers tell Bob and his daughter Pippa that they will chase up the matter but it could be difficult, considering the theft could have occurred any time over the past five years. Financially strapped, Bob wonders where he can now spend the night. Tom organises for him to work a shift at the Imperial in return for a room. PJ and Maggie get on the trail of the missing house but find every lead dead. The only local house moving company in town hasn't done that sort of business for years. The other avenues the Heelers pursue, such as crooks selling off the parts for money, are equally fruitless.

When a review team arrives in Mt. Thomas to decide if the station should be down-graded, the Heelers are thrown into a panic. It doesn't help matters that Nick is the subject of a ""Day in the Life Of"" by Tony Timms, and is doing his best to show that the life of a cop is a dull one. But then a woman goes missing and Tony starts to think that Nick is having an affair with her. Maybe Tony will get a nice, juicy article out of all of this... with Nick as the subject!

PJ has just received news that an Adelaide man suspected of brutally slaying his wife has used one of his credit cards in the area, so the Heelers should be on the lookout for him. PJ organises the team to alert all businesses in the area. At the pub Klaus meets Wade Knight, the man he claims caused the accident. Klaus tries to start a fight but is dragged away by Nick. Nick brings his father and Wade into the station. PJ and Maggie discover that Wade is from Adelaide - could he be the murderer? Dash aids PJ with the investigation into Wade's true identity. As they unravel his past they uncover a credit card scam that has penetrated both Victoria and South Australia. But the reason for Wade's crime is something no one has suspected and its discovery will put Dash in a life-threatening situation. Meanwhile, Nick is starting to feel really concerned about his father. Evidence is beginning to indicate that Klaus may be responsible for the accident.

PJ is stepping out in style - back in uniform as the Acting Sergeant. But this isn't the only change at Mt. Thomas police station. A new member has arrived; acting CI Deborah Hill and none of the Heelers seems able to make a good impression on her. Deborah is currently suing another member, Sgt. Bill Parker, for sexual harassment and tensions increase when she catches the Heelers talking about it behind her back. Deborah is taking over a case from PJ; a series a warehouse burglaries. PJ believes that a local, Johnny Rossitano, is behind them. He explains to Deborah that he has spoken to Rossitano's girlfriend, April, who has told him that Johnny has teamed up with two out-of-towners, Sean and Michael Murphy. The trio are planning to hit a warehouse tonight. Deborah doesn't think much of PJ's techniques or his information. PJ and Deborah continue to clash as they prepare to stake out the warehouse that night. Tom realises that something has to be done and so tells PJ to back off.

On the pretence of continuing their investigation into a farm vandalism case, Adam and Dash spy Nick having some trouble handing Zoe a ring box. Dash and Adam strain to see whether or not she accepts the ring but their view is obstructed. Could Nick be getting married? The Heelers' speculations about the probability of coming nuptials are interrupted by a distressing call. Zoe's horse has been hit by a car. Rushing out to the scene, Zoe is beside herself, wanting to put the horse out of its misery herself. Nick convinces her to put her target pistol down and leave it to the vet. Zoe's grief over the death of her horse is amplified when she is told that during the course of the Heelers' investigation they have spoken to a man at her home who claims to be her boyfriend, a Mr. Martin Bridport. Zoe flies into a rage - Martin had no right to be at her place, and he killed her horse! Martin denies everything but Zoe is adamant; her ex-boyfriend is the culprit.

The Heelers face some harsh realities when Dash believes she has stumbled onto a case of neglect. After nearly knocking down a child in the street, Dash searches for the child's mother who turns up hours later. Dash believes that the woman's gambling addiction has led to the neglect of her son. The mother is furious at the allegations and, in the face of very little proof, Tom tries to diffuse the situation. He explains to Dash that her job is to investigate crimes not accuse mothers of neglect. Dash approaches the social worker, Tim Ryan, who promises to look into the situation. But Dash won't be satisfied until the child is out of the woman's care. Meanwhile, Clancy and Leonie Freeman, an intellectually handicapped couple, are having trouble with their baby Rachel. Friends of the Heelers, they have been tricked into handing over all their money to a photographer/con man who seems to work just within the boundaries of the law.

Movie fever has hit Mt. Thomas with the arrival of two film producers, Rip and Jake Vaughan. They are intending to make a film about the town's local legend - an 1880's bushranger named Starvation O'Flynn. Meanwhile, one of the locals, Don Sparrow, is busy making a commercial for Keith Purvis and his new bulldozer ""Big Rodney."" This piece of film-making has not, however, captured the minds and hearts of the people of Mt. Thomas the same way as the Vaughans' soon-to-be epic. PJ's detective antennae go off the minute he encounters the Vaughans. He doesn't like them at all; but is it because they could be criminals or because he doesn't appreciate them gazing into Maggie's eyes? PJ's suspicion of the Vaughans increases when petty thefts are reported on locations they have surveyed for the film. Are they using the film as a front for a burglary racket? The crimes surrounding the Vaughans become more mysterious when Big Rodney is stolen and Don Sparrow goes missing.

Maggie takes on the responsibility of an assistant crown prosecutor in a criminal trial. Tom finds himself on the side of the accused, a woman charged with the brutal murder of her husband. The case seems like an open and shut win for the prosecution...but is it?

The Heelers' fears are realised when a woman suffering from Motor Neurone Disease is found dead. Her family's past pleas for her to be euthanised make Dr. Zoe Hamilton sure it was not the disease that finally ended her suffering. The Heelers begin an investigation into the death but everyone seems to have an alibi. The answers are closer than they think.

Strange things are happening in the Eventide Retirement Home. Valuables are going missing, one resident is found dead under mysterious circumstances and another endangers the lives of the others when he hallucinates after smoking marijuana. Are the two teenagers doing Community Service behind all the trouble? Or is there something sinister about Yvonne Dunn, the Administrator of Eventide, who seems to have a strange hold over her residents? Who's the person so desperate to get a place in Eventide that they're prepared to go to any lengths to get the existing residents to move to other Homes? As the Heelers investigate they learn that love is a powerful motivator for both young and old. But then the Heelers learn from Leila Clegg, also a resident, that there have been other thefts. Yvonne Dunn starts to look pretty suspicious herself. She claims she did not report the thefts because it unsettles the residents, and Eventide has lost several other homes recently.

When a young man, Dean Hartley, is involved in an accident following a high speed car chase secrets unravelled. Dean admits to driving the vehicle immediately after the accident but later retracts the statement. PJ had taped the conversation and brings the recorder out to show Dean, but when he pushes the play button he finds that the tape is missing. PJ begins to investigate the tape theft but when he stumbles onto the true identity of Dean's natural mother he finds a secret much more shocking.

A visiting troupe of boxers at the annual Mount Thomas Show causes headaches for the Heelers with brawling and a rash of pick-pocketing incidents. The boxers and their matriarchal manager, Bonnie Crossing, aren't the easiest people to get along with, or the most helpful. The Heelers just have to sit it out till the troupes move on. But it isn't that simple. When Adam and Dash go to talk to the boxers about the latest pick-pocketing incident, they are met with stirring and resistance. The situation culminates in Adam accepting a challenge from one of the boxers, Jimmy Cutlass, in what amounts to a grudge match. Tom is furious and forbids it. Dash and Nick, who both abhor boxing and see it as senseless and dangerous also strongly disapprove. But Maggie, PJ, Zoe and Chris can't see anything wrong with it, especially if it can be turned into a charity match to raise money for new mats for the local Blue Light Gym. Adam decides to go ahead with the match.

""Mr. Lucky"" is Enzo Fiorelli, a charming, charismatic and successful con man. Several years ago he defrauded most of Mt. Thomas' Italian community for everything they had, destroying their lives, ruining businesses and leaving a trail of grief and outrage. Enzo Fiorelli paid for his exploits with a long stretch in jail. Released, he inexplicably walked out of his witness protection program, blowing his cover forever, and returned to Mt. Thomas. The Heelers struggle to keep a lid on the community's righteous resentment for the man who caused so many of them so much pain. At first it's only hate mail, and then it's a brick through the windscreen of Enzo's expensive car… but then it's a bullet through one of his tyres. Is it the community? Is it Enzo himself, trying to get the Heelers to give him full-time protection? And why has he returned to Mt. Thomas, where there is so much hatred directed towards him.

Sally Downie, the woman in Tom's life, has been abducted and the Heelers suspect the same two violent criminals who are holding hostage the daughter of a local con man. But when the girl escapes, the Heelers realise they may have misread the situation. Sally is still in danger and Tom must lead a desperate search to save her life.

Adam and Dash find Tony Timms, intrepid reporter for the Mt. Thomas Gazette, dazed and injured on the riverbank while they are investigating a reported explosion. Tony's camera has gone but he won't say who attacked him or why he was there. But the Heelers get a clue after they attend a charity fish dinner at the Imperial, all of those who eat the fish come down with food poisoning. Could it be that the Mt. Thomas River is polluted? Sure enough, the Heelers discover some suspicious looking barrels in the river. But Doctor Zoe's tests show that the drum contents had nothing to do with the fish poisoning. Meanwhile, Chris reports that the Akubra hat containing the money collected at the charity dinner has gone missing. The suspects include Keith Purvis and his new lady love, a local pig farmer. Or was it Jeanie, the cook, resentful of the implication that she poisoned the fish? And how was Tony Timms and his keen youth trainee involved?

Dash is befriended by a stray dog, but when she brings it back to the station, it tries to attack Nick and generally causes havoc. When Tom orders her to send it to the pound, Dash defies him, becoming almost obsessively defensive of the animal. Could this attitude have something to do with the news she has just received about her medical condition? Instead of obeying Tom, Dash advertises on local radio for the owner of the dog to come forward. Unfortunately, two separate contenders appear and, judging by the dog's attitude, neither of them is the real owner. What is going on? Dog attacks have been reported in the area, and the Heelers suspect Dash's new canine friend is the culprit.

Tom is faced with a dilemma when a mother asks him to protect her son, a convicted felon who is back home after an early release. The boy was responsible for the particularly cowardly armed robbery of a local real estate office which traumatised the owner's wife so much that she later committed suicide. Her husband seems a reasonable man, but could he be harbouring feelings of revenge? Someone has to be responsible for the threatening phone calls and broken windows the family is getting. The Heelers question an old associate of the son's and, by chance, discover him to be in possession of a stolen police gun. The news almost immediately brings Detective Sergeant Ben Stewart, from Organised Crime, to Mt. Thomas. He has been on the trail of these stolen police weapons for the past two years, and is excited to have a positive lead at last. Ben Stewart fits in very well at Mt. Thomas - almost too well for PJ's liking as he takes an immediate shine to Maggie and wants to ask her out.

PJ is pressuring Maggie to get out of her date with Ben Stewart as they are driving along the road from the local tip, when they notice a car that has run off the road. As they radio for an ambulance, they discover the real cause of the accident - the driver has a bullet through his head. Ben is immediately interested, convinced the unknown gun seller from last week may have been involved. He is particularly interested in finding a bullet from the gun to see if it matches one that was used to murder a police mate of his two years ago. Unfortunately, the only available bullet is in the driver's head. But when Det. Sgt. Peppy Romano arrives from Homicide, Ben starts to act strangely. Obviously these two have a history, but it is one they are unwilling to share with the curious PJ and Maggie. Peppy almost immediately announces his chief suspect as being the new wife of the brain-dead driver, citing his reason as the large life insurance held by her husband.

When Maggie and PJ are called to a wealthy grazier's to investigate a wool theft they are greeted by a mob of naked sheep instead of the empty wool shed they expected to find. The grazier points the finger at an ex-shearer and old time rival, but Maggie and PJ discover he is not the only person with reason to dislike the grazier. Other suspects include the recently sacked manager of the property and the grazier's own daughter who has her own powerful reasons to resent her father. As they Investigate the theft, Maggie and PJ discover a secret love affair between the daughter and the son of the man he most despises, the ex-shearer. Could the two of them be planning to use the stolen wool clip to start a new life together? The boy is a talented pianist and Dash's mum, Beth McKinley, is leading a group of citizens raising money for him to study music overseas.

When a visiting detective is accused of murdering a petty criminal and drug user, Maggie and PJ find their relationship under great pressure. The dead man was a vital link in the case involving three missing police guns and the discovery of Det. Sgt. Ben Stewart crouching over his body leads to suspicion that he is the murderer. Stewart has made no secret of his feelings for Maggie and he turns to her for help. While Maggie believes in Stewart's innocence, PJ can only go on the evidence.

Nick questions his ability to continue in the police force when he is duped by a sexual abuse case, and then makes a bad call in another related case when a woman asks for an intervention order against her ex-boyfriend, but Nick merely asks the man to stay away from her. When the woman ends up in hospital with a broken neck and her estranged boyfriend attached to her spinal halo, Nick must devise a way to bring the man down without further endangering the woman.

Tom and Chris' longstanding friendship is put in jeopardy when Chris finds a fifty-year-old journal in her cellar. The journal appears to have been owned by a young woman and Chris discovers that it is the true account of a romance gone wrong and murder. Chris brings the journal to Tom, asking him to discover the identity of the murderer and bring them to justice. There are no names used in the journal, but nevertheless Tom works out that the owner is a local spinster - the last person you'd ever suspect of hiding a murder for fifty years. Now that the owner of the journal has been revealed, Chris wants the investigation dropped; she doesn't want to see this woman put behind bars. Tom isn't keen on throwing the woman in the cells either, but a murder has been committed and he has no choice but to continue with his enquiries. This puts Tom and Chris, normally allies, head to head, with Chris aggressively defending the woman and Tom bringing her in to face the murder charges.

The rest of the Heelers are puzzled when PJ starts behaving strangely after a married couple is brought back to the station following a violent domestic. Maggie is especially worried, as it begins to look very much as though PJ is having an affair with this woman, a nurse at the local hospital. But what this woman really wants is PJ's help in breaking some bad news to her husband. PJ finally reveals this news to Maggie and explains what has prompted his strange behaviour. PJ hadn't thought twice in rescuing a bloodied driver from his mangled car and this woman has told him that she has caught HIV from a needle-stick injury while treating the same man. PJ could now also be infected and therefore so could Maggie. While they start their two-week wait for the results of PJ's blood test, the man is captured on a security camera holding up a service station with a syringe full of blood.

Mt. Thomas is in the grip of fear as a serial killer stalks the area. But as police from around the state work to bring the man down in an organised sting, Adam notices a bystander behaving strangely and, acting on his instincts, brings the man into custody. In one swift move Adam ends the manhunt and makes himself a hero. As the Heelers review the event, the discussion turns to the new technique of ""profiling."" Maggie has recently learnt about it in a seminar and Adam is fascinated with its capabilities. But Nick maintain that it was old-fashioned policing that had captured the killer the day before, and it'll be the same thing that catches another killer tomorrow. Adam's interest in the issue stays keen as he helps to investigate a quick succession of fires at the local primary school.

Ben Stewart returns to a permanent posting in Mt. Thomas, but he has been demoted to Senior Constable for punching Romano. However Ben soon puts the Heelers loyalties to the test when he becomes the focus of an investigation into the death of a local woman.

Maggie has convinced PJ to join her in buying a piece of investment land in her name. But when they arrive at the solicitor's office to collect the papers they find the solicitor dead. He has a gunshot wound to the head, the gun in his hand and a note on his computer which reads, ""I'm sorry I failed you all."" It seems undeniable that the solicitor has committed suicide. Have Maggie and PJ lost their $10,000? They are both eager to begin an investigation into the matter but Tom will not allow Maggie to continue because of her personal involvement. However, PJ stays on the case, safe in the knowledge that his investment, like his relationship with Maggie, will remain a secret. PJ does not hold great hopes of getting the money back, especially when it is suggested that the solicitor had a gambling problem. But Ben is anxious to help Maggie and vows to do everything he can to return her money.

Nick is awoke in the middle of the night by a drunken tour operator who reports that one of his clients has gone missing in the National Park. The Heelers question the woman's husband and their pregnant friend, but they say the woman fell behind during an evening bushwalk and just... disappeared. While the Heelers are conducting a thorough search of the park in daylight, PJ wants a word with Aussie Andy, the tour operator, believing that his drunken carelessness may have contributed to the woman's disappearance. But when PJ and Ben are climbing up the rocky bluff where Andy is supposedly searching, PJ falls and twists his ankle badly. Unfortunately their only radio was smashed in the fall, and PJ finds himself extremely grateful for Ben's help - especially as he has insisted that they carry on. Up on the bluff, Ben finds a lost gold earring.

A spate of false security alarms is keeping the Heelers on their toes. Tom is becoming increasingly frustrated with the owner of the alarm company, Roland Halliday, and his inefficiencies. If the Heelers are constantly being called to false alarms they will have little time left to pursue real crimes. Meanwhile, Adam is involved in a more pressing matter. His mate ""Croc"" Perry has been involved in an incident at the local fast food shop. Adam keeps him out of hot water and also makes amends with the shop proprietor, earning his gratitude - Adam's burgers from now on are free. Tom is unimpressed with Adam for exercising poor professional judgment by associating with the likes of Croc. Tom's disaffection worsens when Adam brings in free hamburgers for all the Heelers. In Tom's view accepting ""gifts"", no matter how small, is skating a little too close to corruption; nothing is free in this world.

Ben fights for the life of a suicidal teenager who has been in trouble with the law too many times. Ben believes that the boy's crimes, like the suicide attempt, are really cries for help and when the Heelers find him in a terrifying situation with his estranged father, Ben realises that the boy's life rests in his hands.

While out on a job Nick decides to give Ben the experience of one of Mt. Thomas's many fine restaurants - the Demirs' kebab shop. They walk in on a dispute between the owners and are shocked to learn that the conflict is over the arranged marriage of their seventeen-year-old daughter, Deniz. Nick is concerned that Deniz has been coerced into the marriage, but she assures him that she's happy to be marrying an older man she has never met. The Heelers are also investigating reports of a prowler peeking into ladies' windows and disappearing with items from their backyards. When Maggie and PJ arrest him, they discover that he is a Turkish national, an illegal immigrant who speaks no English. Deniz is brought in to translate and it is revealed that he is also party to an arranged marriage, but this one seems to be a marriage scam.

When Ben and Dash visit a farm to enquire about a spate of thefts in the district, they discover that those pillars of the community, the Frasers, are involved in a violent argument. Ben tries to resolve the dispute between father and son but is hampered by the Frasers' belief that what happens in the family should stay in the family. When Ben spots a black eye on Mrs Fraser he fears the situation may be more serious than he first thought. However, Tom refuses to believe that Mr Fraser would be capable of beating his wife. The conflict over this issue creates a tense situation for Ben and Tom as they begin to clash over issues of operational responsibility and initiative. As the war of words continues, Nick, as Sergeant, is brought into the argument. Ben wonders why many of Nick's jobs are done by Tom - does the Boss have reservations about Nick's competence or is he just holding onto the reins too tightly?

Chris Riley finds herself the target of big business when a representative of a large development group comes to town. He wants to demolish the Imperial and replace it with a huge shopping mall and is offering a very generous sum of money to have his way. Chris has her reservations but will the financial reward be too much for her to ignore? Meanwhile, Adam finds himself attracted to a Glamour photographer that he pulls over during a traffic blitz.

When Adam discovers that a car he has just purchased is part of a stolen car racket, his loyalty to his job and friends hang in the balance. Adam has to make a decision; should he own up and lose risking his money, or just keep his mouth shut? Some harsh treatment from Tom about Adam's handling of a spate of shoplifting incidents adds pressure to Adam's eventual decision.

Unexpected news from Zoe leads Nick to spring a surprise of his own - his resignation from the Victoria Police. In typical Nick style, he refuses to provide a reason for his resignation, hampering Tom's attempts to talk sense into him. But as the Heelers try to discover the real motives for Nick's strange behaviour an angry dispute over a parking ticket leads to the arrest of a chook farmer, the death of some chickens and the disappearance of a parking inspector. The chook farmer becomes the prime suspect, but investigations unearth a secret life and plenty of people with good reason to hate the officious inspector. When a wedding celebrant visits and Nick is sprung baking a wedding cake, the Heelers finally put two and two together to discover the truth.

Ben clashes with Tom when he finds himself championing the cause of Maureen Ritchie and her three foster children - in particular the two boys Scott and Jason. Ben's involvement with Maureen is made more intense because he is missing his own three kids and has concerns about his son's upcoming birthday. Ben is warned by Tom and Maggie not to get in too deep, but he is enraged when Maureen's neighbour, Herbert Fisher, is robbed and the finger is pointed at the two boys. There have been several incidents of vandalism in the street and Herbert has been waging a campaign against the boys; Ben is sure that he is trying to set them up to get them removed from Maureen's care. Herbert Fisher has made it clear several times that he wants the boys gone. But Ben and Maggie then discover that Maureen's estranged husband, Joe, also has reason to want to get rid of the boys.

Maggie's life is turned upside down when her brother, Robbie, shows up after having escaped from gaol. When she can't give him the help he expects, he takes off and the Heelers begin an extensive search. However, what appears to be a simple job turns into a frightening chain of events - a speed boat show goes terribly wrong and Maggie finds herself in a struggle to save the life of a five year old boy from the hands of a determined killer.

While she waits for the final test results of her cancer, Dash becomes drawn into a case involving one of her old and trusted school teachers. A surveillance camera catches Karen attempting to smother her baby girl, and when the video tape goes missing, Dash is immediately a suspect. When Adam is seen with the woman's husband, he is also placed under suspicion. As they fear for the jobs and worry about the upcoming doctor's appointment, Adam and Dash find comfort in each other's arms.

When a vital piece of evidence goes missing from the station, Tom has to face the unpleasant prospect that one of his team might be corrupt. As the accusations fly, Monica Draper arrives to conduct an investigation. Both Adam and Dash comes under scrutiny - both have a connection to the case and both had the means and opportunity. The stolen evidence, a videotape, incriminates Dash's ex-teacher - a woman who had a profound influence on Dash and convinced her to join the force.

Adam has left the force, and Mt. Thomas, and Probationary Constable Jack Lawson has barely arrived in Mt. Thomas before he is in trouble with the police. Jack's misdemeanours are small ones and quickly forgiven as his unassuming charm disarms Maggie and Dash. Even Tom can't find fault with the new recruit, whose initiative and enthusiasm for menial tasks prove an immediate asset. But Jack's sunny welcome to Mt. Thomas is clouded by a report of sexual assault at the local retirement home. This one requires a woman's touch. Maggie and Dash visit the home to discover the alleged victim is in the early stages of Alzheimer's disease. She claims her assailant is the devil. Maggie is not prepared to dismiss the report and neither is Dash, who finds the devil alive and well in the Mt. Thomas video store in the form of a plastic mask. As the new kid on the beat, Jack is ready for some action. PJ and Ben aren't about to let him shine all day long and dispatch him on a wild goose chase around the

After her attack, Maggie refuses to play victim as PJ and Ben battle to unmask the devil. Maggie recovers from the assault by the devil who has the women of Mt. Thomas terrified. Tom tries to keep his mind on the job after becoming interested in a mysterious woman. When two houses are broken into and large sums of money are left on both kitchen tables, the Heelers are left wondering. Were they gifts or proceeds from a robbery? They find the man responsible and he claims he is seeking atonement by doing God's work. He says he is honest but PJ suspects he's been guilty of fraud. The man's request for spiritual advice leads Tom to a surprise - the new Anglican Minister Grace Curtis is Tom's mystery woman. The man with the mission disappears and his car is set on fire. Was it an act of revenge or a desperate act by someone close to him? Can Tom and the Reverend help him before his determined acts of generosity cost him his life and the happiness of his family?

Her husband blames Tess and she is also scrutinised by the Ethical Standards Department and even begins to doubt her decision. Was she responsible for the death of the woman? Tess' application to foster Hayley is threatened. Is she capable of keeping Hayley safe from harm? Jo and Jonesy question the victim's family and fight to clear Tess' name. Even if Tess' decision was justified, has her chance to foster Hayley been lost?

Things are going much better now for Tess and Hayley, until an incident at school provides Tess with something to worry about while Tom and Reverend Grace grow closer.

Meanwhile Tom suspects a retired thief guilty of burglary until he is questioned and the old man claims he was set up. The Heelers have a lead on another suspect and their hunt leads them to two teenage boys. One is the estranged son of the retired thief. Is he following in his father's footsteps? When a second robbery occurs involving a serious assault, the old man defends his son's innocence. He might not be the world's greatest father, but he's positive his son is not violent. When the Heelers locate their original suspect they discover has a watertight alibi. Does he have a hold over the retired thief's son? Tom worries for the old man's safety when he is discovered assaulted and his son cannot be found. Can the desire to protect and impress go too far?

The Heelers suspect a local horse trainer of assaulting and robbing a bookie. Jo becomes intrigued when she discovers a page torn from a diary after questioning the trainer's strapper, stable hand and assistant jockey. The writing is troubled and Jo is concerned that it is a cry for help. Jo discovers the diary belongs to the young stable hand. Has someone been hurting him and why won't he say? When the trainer is found bashed and the stable hand is missing, Jo worries he has finally fought back. The trainer dies and the stable hand is convinced he is responsible. Jo is determined to prove his innocence. Were the bookie and the trainer assaulted by the same person? Can Jo help the young stable hand find the strength to speak out?

Tom is dragged to see a touring faith healer but his scepticism turns to concern when the healer is attacked by a man accusing him of killing his wife. Is the healer a fraud? Jo questions him and is surprised to find that he is far from shrewd. His manager, once healed by him herself, is incredibly protective of him and takes care of the business with the help of a roadie. The manager is beside herself when Jo finds the healer violently assaulted. Is this the revenge of the grieving man? Did he and the roadie engineer this together? As Jo witnesses the darker side of faith she marvels at the healer's capacity for forgiveness

Jonesy's failure to follow instructions has him on the back foot with Tess and leads her to conceal the fact that Les Anderson, the man Jonesy believes murdered his father, may be implicated in a death at a building site. Murder is suspected when the building's scaffolding is discovered tampered with. Did the victim's mate and his widow conspire to kill him? The victim's widow further implicates Anderson, but questions arise in regard to her integrity when his alibi proves watertight. Is the widow trying to protect her husband's best mate? Or did Jonesy pressure her to lie about Anderson? Jonesy's dogged determination to clear the widow's name leads him to the truth, but has he further damaged Tess' trust in him in the process?

When Jonesy and Tess find Les Anderson's car parked on the roadside they don't expect to find him almost dead in his boot - the victim of a brutal bashing. Tom and Tess must reluctantly put Jonesy on the suspect list - along with Wendy Reiner, Jason Rose, Nipper Brown and his brother Mitch.

While Jonesy is cleared, the other suspects all have too much evidence against them and Les is in a coma so he can't have his say. When Les wakes, Nipper confesses to the crime and Les confesses privately to Jonesy that he did kill Sam Bridges, Jonesy's father.

The Heelers must confront all the others to prove it because no-one else was in the room when the confession occured. When they finally get their proof it is too late. Les Anderson has just been pronounced dead.

Now Jonesy must decide whether to stay despite the fact that the quest that drew him into the Police Force has at last come to an end.

Ben is desperate to spend Christmas with his children provided he wins the lottery in order to pay their airfare. Tom wins the church raffle but the prize is stolen. The cast of Grace's nativity pageant are suspects. Tom is far from impressed when the sponsor of the pageant forces Clancy, an intellectually disabled man, out of the lead role so his own son can take it. Everyone is thrilled when Clancy is revealed as the owner of the winning lottery ticket, but the pageant sponsor accuses him of theft. As the truth is pieced together, Ben revaluates the demands he has placed on his children. Is Ben's dogged pursuit of the perfect Christmas risking the happiness of those he loves?

For a cop, Christmas can be the hardest time of the year. Jo can't wait to eat, drink and be merry with her nearest and dearest. Tess is determined that Hayley has her best Christmas ever.

Tess worries for Hayley's safety when one of the girl's new friends is accused of attacking a girl at school. Tom's daughter, Susan, who has just moved back to Mt Thomas, teaches the accused boy and has faith in his innocence. When it is discovered that the boy has killed his classmate 2 years before, opinion is divided. He was too young to be charged, but could he snap again!? When the boy's father arrives in town, it sets off a chain of events that put Tom and Susan's life in danger

Tom discovers his daughter is pregnant when she becomes the victim of a hit and run. The accident leaves her unconscious and internally injured and Tom is faced with a terrible dilemma. If he saves his daughter's child he risks losing his own. Would Susan forgive him? Could Tom forgive himself? As Tom seeks justice, Tess fights for Hayley's love. Hayley's mother's prison release draws near as Tess struggles to understand why Hayley is pushing her away. Tom and Tess risk losing the people they love in their desire to protect them.

At the end of the day, Tom gets to keep Susan but loses her daughter, and Tess ulitmately loses Hayley to the girl's family.

(from tv guide): Jonesy gets itchy feet when a hack wrestling troupe he once worked for comes to town. Meg, the owner, is an old flame and she makes her interest in Jonesy clear. The troupe is struggling to stay afloat and the theft of a valuable wrestling belt places their future under threat. Meg's plans for the troupe are unpopular with the older wrestlers. Did one of them steal the belt in an effort to protect their history? A pyrotechnics accident leaves one old wrestler badly burnt and Meg leans on Jonesy for support. Jonesy is disbelieving as evidence mounts against his old girlfriend. Would she risk someone's life to get her own way? Tess thinks so. As the troupe continues to splinter, Tess questions Jonesy's objectivity. Jonesy is torn when Meg asks him to leave the Force and join her and the troupe. Does he know her as well as he thought? Where is his future?

Jo's new romance is firing up with her fencing tutor - world class athlete, silver medal winner and sports journalist Guy Merrin and the Heelers are impressed. PJ and Jo are called when a 17 year old athlete named Callum Stiles collapses on the track and dies. Jo finds syringes in his bag. His mother tells them Callum was under a lot of stress over winning the games but she wouldn't have given him drugs, she was once an athlete in a scandal herself. Jonesy suspects a drug called EPO which increases oxygen flow and might not be detected in regular drug tests.

Guy soon comes to the station looking for information after he heard a rumour that drugs were involved. Tom and PJ are worried Jo's personal life is getting in the way, but she is also intrigued as to these ""rumours"". Neither Assistant Coach Dan Reed or runner Fiona Bartram believe that Callum was using drugs, and Dan is publicly against them. Callum's world class coach Frank Jarvis is also known to have spoke out against drugs,

Chris has finaly pulled through and got the first Mount Thomas Blues Festival up and running. There are thousands of tourists in town but the predictions are for heavy rain. The festival may be ruined and Chris has been pushing her hardest for months to get this thing going. Jo is not excited at the prospect of Blues, but Jonesy and Tess certainly are. Among the singers are legends Charlie Bell and Butch Jordan who was Tess's favourite singer as a child. Jo is even more angry when Ben injures himself at basketball and she must take over his shift, missing out on her weekend off.

Farmer Roy Haiseman begins firing at a trespasser whom Jonesy soon discovers is Butch Jordan himself. One of only two roads to the festival goes through Roy's property and Roy is against the idea. Or, as Tom puts it, Roy is against the idea that Chris beat him in the council election. At the same time, festival organiser Erin William's hit Roy's mare which escaped after Butch left the gate open. Luckily, the th

When PJ's mother arrives in town with Stefan, her boyfriend, PJ takes an instant dislike to him.

A scandal erupts when three generations of a family begin fighting over the eldest woman's pottery collection ,especially two expensive pieces named 'Jack' and 'Jill' but when forgery and theft become part of the case, the Heelers are baffled.

Meanwhile, Helena is torn between her son and her lover and when she sends Stefan away and decides to stay with PJ he questions why. Then he learns the truth - she has been diagnosed with cancer and has 2, maybe 3, months to live.

PJ, unwanting and unwilling to deal with his mother's imminent death, throws himself into the murder of a convicted kidnapper whilst serving life. Jo and Ben set about the task of convincing him to talk to his mother about it. But he refuses and throws himself further into his work, which pays off when he discovers there is something suspicious about both the kidnapping and the murder and Jo has to agree there are too many coincidences.

But when PJ solves the case and sees a son and mother reunited he decides to be with his mother until the end and to share her pain.

As Helena moves closer to her end, PJ is desperate for her to continue living. While he seeks out alternative treatments when she refuses the radio-therapy, Chris, Tom and all his friends try to convince him it is time for his mother to die. Helena just wants him to accept Death. He is conflicted more as she turns to religion, something he doesn't believe in. But she is praying more for him and to help him sort out his life.

Meanwhile, Benny Matthews' latest love affair with a 15 year old is not going down well with her father, who demands action be taken. When PJ tells Benny to stop seeing the girl it just makes her angrier and she moves in with him. The Heelers and Kimberley's father are worried Benny will get the girl onto drugs.

Helena gives Ben a note to give to PJ when she is dying. It tells him to let her die in peace and not to prolong her life. He continues to seek treatments for her even when she tells him not to. He begins to feel worse after he realises that for a moment he

A depressed PJ returns to work following Helena's death. Although all the Heelers want him to take more time off he is sure that he is fine and it won't affect his work. Meanwhile a well-off builder's wife goes missing. Her car is found near the river, but she's not.

Gary Parker seemingly had the perfect life with the perfect family - wife Catriona and two small children. But it seems not. The Heelers think it may be suicide but PJ thinks the husband might be involved. They discover that she filled up her petrol and had her hair and nails done just before she disappeared and PJ thinks this disputes the suicide theory, as does the fact it is almost her son's birthday and she wouldn't kill herself just then? There is no evidence to suggest she was depressed.

Jo and PJ investigate their expensive house where they begin to unravel the story that life with the Parkers isn't perfect, Catriona's hairdresser Chloe, her only true confidante, agrees. While the river brings up nothing, one of he

There are troubles at the Mt Thomas Police Station - the toilet is acting up and the only plumber available is the incompetent Charlie Clarke. But he already has his own set of troubles - his wife is fighting with the new au pair, who it doesn't seem Charlie is paying. But she is clearly not attracted to him so what is her purpose in town? Soon she is linked to a man convicted for fraud who now does sketches, and a murderer on the run and soon lives are at risk. But how can the Heelers prevent anything from happening? It seems that the answers all lie in the station's pipes...

The police are invited to an old-time charity dance. Ben takes a St. Davids Officer, Shelley Piper. However her separated husband, Peter Baynes, a sergeant and Inspector Falcon-Price's ""golden boy"" believes he has ownership of his ex-wife and, when he is very drunk, starts a fight with Ben. Tom and Falcon-Price find Ben in the toilets having just punched Baynes.

Falcon-Price naturally believes Baynes and Ben knows that his past history of violence (e.g. when he punched an officer and got demoted) is not working in his favour. Baynes agrees to not press charges but Ben knows that Falcon-Price thinks he should be suspended. Tom, Jo and the rest believe Ben however, who says he was just defending himself. Shelley tells Ben that all Baynes wants is to continously be seen as the good guy in the Inspector's eyes.

Sam Baxter, a troubled 15 year old girl, is found breaking in to her mother's store. Her mother, who is tired of this, wants her to be charged. Jo thinks she just wants attention and begins to believe everything Sam says, including that it is her parent's fault. Her criminal father arrives in town and her mother doesn't want anything to do with him but Sam likes him.

Instead of being charged, Sam is let off with a warning and has to help an elderly member of Grace's parish, Olive Hemmings, with her housework. Surprisingly the two hit it off and Jo's faith in the girl is restored. But when Olive doesn't turn up at church, she is found bleeding in her house. Someone broke in and stole $2000. A young female called the ambulance and they soon find out it is Sam, staying at her adult boyfriend's house. Sam pushed her over cause she was ""in the way"". Her mother is sure she is ending up like her father. Jo can't believe that the girl she trusted did this.

Meanwhile, Jo's parents arrive in tow

There is celebration in Mt. Thomas as Tom gets a service medal for 30 years in the force. But the celebrations are marred when a young Aboriginal woman injures Grace and claims Tom stole her from her family as a child. The Heelers soon discover that when Tom was new to the force, in 1973, he was involved in helping the government remove some Aboriginal children from their families. Where he lived as a child, out near Lake End Mission, was the scene of his removing Kim Cook and her two brothers from their violent father. Kim's life was destroyed in foster homes and her brothers both died (one of drugs and one of suicide). Tess, Evan and PJ stand by the boss but Jo believes it is more his fault for taking the children.

Meanwhile, Chris believes Kim is responsible for stealing some money at the pub that the town had pooled to buy Tom an antique mirror for his 30 years. Kim denies it and her alibi seems to check out, but when they discover she has a boy in the room with her, they think he

Jo is convinced by Jonesy to cut a speeding fine after he discovers the perpertrator is an old best friend, Ian Bolger. Meanwhile, Jo is surprised when she sees a man who she suspects is a burglar from years ago and takes him to the station, where he is promptly released. PJ, Tom and Tess won't tell her why, or who the strange visitors at the station are. Tess is angry when she discovers Jonesy let his friend off the hook but that is nothing compared to her anger when Jonesy unknowingly blows a major undercover operation.

It turns out that Jim Deakin, who Jo took to the station, is in fact a diamond thief and is involved in a major heist and the Heelers were assisting Undercover. Jonesy, bringing a tyre to the same mechanic that Deakin was to meet his accomplice at, blew the entire operation and the Heelers discover money for the operation was found inside the tyre. Jonesy knows Bolger asked him to take the tyre but Bolger says it was the other way round. Jonesy is temporarily placed

An aspiring ballerina is injured in a car crash and Jo seeks justice. However, the young driver of the other car, who is also wanted on theft, is determined to go free and not have a blemish on his reputation as he is studying law.

It is an interesting time in Mt Thomas for couples - together and not together. While PJ and Liz enjoy a secret romance, Tom and Grace enjoy their not-so-secret romance and Tess and Jonesy struggle to hold back their all too obvious feelings for each other.

An Elvis auction brings out ""Gossie"" Goss (last seen in 8x25 ""Dinosaurs""), a fellow copper and friend of Tom's. When he buys a $6000 scarf which he can't afford, all for his girlfriend Barbara, Tom is worried. Barbara has no money either and is spending all her time doing some heavy petting with Gossie while her disgusted teenage daughter Laura pays the bill.

A friend of Jo's, science teacher Deniz Gulmez, is accused of hurting Rufus Sedgwick, a boy in her class. The two witnesses - Emily Larson and Jason McKendry, hate each other so it seems neither of them would be working toeghter. Even the principal, Mrs. Ellis believes them. Jo thinks this is because she is a racist bigot.

A domestic at the church finds Jonesy's mate's wedding coming to a standstill. Geoff Vincent and Charmian Blakeney are planning to get married the following day but her father Ned is fighting with his ex-wife Hilary and her young lover Damian. To add to this, the best man - Wolfie Schmidt is having serious troubles. The wedding rings are missing, one of which was Ned's mother's.

Sleazy jeweller Harold Craig has no idea where they are either, and although the Heelers have suspicions, he can't help them.

Jonesy's honest handling of a paternity claim against him and the claims by two women for the possession of a ten year old girl, expose more of Tess' feelings about Jonesy, as well as her own insecurities.

When the victim of a motor accident claims his good Samaritan is trying to kill him, and two local farmers who have lost their mother suddenly come into money and their life changes, Tess and Jonesy have to learn to work together again when a dangerous situation occurs.

Meanwhile, Liz is endangered and PJ has to come to terms with how serious he is about her, but she decides to go back to Melbourne. However there is definitely some unfinished business between these two...

And Jo studies for her upcoming Senior Constable exam, will she get it?

Jo invites herself to live in PJ's house, but fails to let him know. While PJ tries to persuade her to move out, a decision made by Jo in good faith has unforeseen and very serious consequences when an intellectually disabled man is accused of burning down a sheltered workshop. Jo refuses to believe the accusation, but her fight to prove his innocence and return him to his home places further pressure on his mother with tragic results. Jo is distraught, and PJ's efforts to comfort her turn into something neither of them expected.

A private school teacher is found dead on the outskirts of town of an apparent self inflicted gunshot wound. But Jo suspects something more and believes it was murder. Meanwhile she and PJ have to face each other after waking up in bed together, both uncomfortable over what has happened.

When the discovery of a drug Belladonna, or ""Naked Lady"" is found in his system, Jo persists to find out the secrets behind this man's life and who killed him and her persistence is what ends up finding the real killer. She also recieves an award for saving Falcon-Price in 8x24 An Inspector Calls. However she is worried PJ doesn't feel anything after what they did. They finally discuss it and realise that working and living together is enough and that a relationship would ruin their friendship.

Ben is personally affected by the tragic death of an infant in a motor accident. He believes he's found the drunken culprit but the suspect has a different tale to tell. As Ben tries to get to the truth, he uncovers a scandal involving Grace's congregation. Grace finds herself under attack from a mystery assailant, but resists Tom's attempts to protect her. She also rejects a proposal of marriage made for all the wrong reasons forcing Tom to examine his true feelings for her.

PJ finds himself at loggerheads with Jo over her sympathy for a woman on work release from prison. The arrival in town of her son and defacto husband leads PJ to suspect that the woman is still involved in their criminal activities. His views seem to be confirmed when she escapes from prison, but Jo discovers she has a different motivation, and together she and PJ must try to save her son's life. After agreeing to be 'just good friend' PJ naturally assumes Jo will now be moving out of his house, but Jo has different ideas.

Tess and Jonesy clash when a man accuses his estranged wife of trying to kill his girlfriend by poisoning her breakfast jam. When they question the wife, she counter-accuses her husband of product tampering and extortion. Tess empathises with the wife, who is an independent woman like herself, running her own jam making business. Jonesy, on the other hand, feels the husband is misunderstood. Despite a product recall, the Heelers realise there is a second jar of poisoned jam out there somewhere which must be found before someone dies

Ben takes on the job of prosecuting a teenager accused of the heart-breaking robbery of a grieving widower

Jonesy is rushed into hospital by Tess, Ben and an anxious family. The previous day, Jonesy is out fly fishing with his book on "Fishing For Dummies". He calls Tess and she tells him they aren't concerned about two missing backpackers, they are more than likely just enjoying themselves.

Tom's wedding plans are thrown into disarray when Grace's ex husband, Simon, arrives in town. It soon becomes apparent that Simon will use any means to come between Tom and Grace and disrupt their marriage plans. An unfortunate caricature on the wall of the police station seems to be the work of Grace's son, but turns out to reveal the darker motives of Simon. Tom finds himself up against a very devious mind as he desperately tries to keep his marriage plans on track. Soon Tom finds himself at the centre of a murder investigation when Grace's ex husband is found dead under suspicious circumstances

Tom seems to be his own worst enemy when he admits to a violent confrontation with Simon shortly before his death. It takes the best efforts of the Heelers to clear Tom's name so that his wedding to Grace can finally go ahead. But there is another mystery to be solved before his colleagues can attend the nuptials.

As Ben and Jo wrestle with the problems of an immigrant family new to Mt Thomas, they discover there are deeper reasons for their troublesome behaviour. While they do their best for the family, they find the scars left by their experiences as asylum seekers in detention are not so easily healed. When the father has to commit the mother to psychiatric care, Ben is forced to put his life on the line to deal with an explosive situation involving their teenage son. Meanwhile Tom finally starts his new life in the rectory with Grace.

Tom finds parenthood is no easier the second time around. First his younger stepson is injured in an anti-abortion rally, then the older one admits to having caused the pregnancy of a local girl. To cap it off, his daughter gets defensive because her flatmate is a suspect in the brutal attack of the local doctor, who is running a controversial women's clinic. Tom recognises that his elder stepson isn't a kid any more and an unexpected bond forms between them.

Tess and Jonesy disagree about how to deal with a gang of troublesome teenage boys who seem to be beyond the reach of the law. The situation becomes complicated when a group of concerned citizens decides to take the law into their own hands. An injury to an old woman leads to retaliation with serious consequences for one of the youngsters. When Jonesy finally realises the source of Tess' intolerance, he helps her experience the childhood she never had.

Ben is coaching a school swimming team and is surprised when one of the girls, Chloe, develops a crush on him. That night he drives her home and she throws herself at him. When he arrives back at the station, her mother is filing a sexual assault charge against him.

Ben's re-involvement with his first wife Angela is complicated by the appearance of her jealous husband. By taking responsibility for the finances of an elderly and vulnerable female neighbour, Ben himself falls prey to exploitation by Angela's husband. Ben's police colleagues fear he is too much in love with Angela to see what is happening.

After Jonesy crashes a police vehicle, Tess decides he needs to learn something about teamwork. And when a local panel beater is found robbed and assaulted, it seems the perfect chance to test his teamwork skills. But confusion takes hold when the cops discover that they have entered a web of lies and intrigue where everyone has a motive, but who exactly is doing what? With so many different crimes taking place, and so many suspects, it takes the collective efforts of all the police force to put it together.

Jo is attending a counselling session, after shooting a man in the previous episode. She returns to Mt. Thomas and is not happy because she didn't want to attend the session. She overhears PJ saying she isn't as strong as she makes out and is not impressed. Does everyone think she did something wrong?

At the end of the day, PJ and Jo have a new understanding of each other while Jonesy can't stand the fact that Tess may be interested in Josh after all.

PJ is thrown for a loop when Jo announces she is in love with him. The investigation into a mystery involving two brothers, one woman and obsessive love confirms PJ's belief that passion is dangerous and love only leads to heartache. As the war between the brothers escalates PJ, Jo, Ben and Tom are drawn into who is lying and who is telling the truth.

There is a total fire ban. A frustrated PJ is seduced by Jo one night, while - in the other room - Ben gets progressively drunker. Later, as Jo and PJ lie awake, they smell smoke and realise the house is on fire. After rescuing Ben, they flee.

While they recover at the hospital, Jonesy arrives and tells them that all their belongings are destroyed. Ben claims an intruder knocked him out, so an arson squad is called. Meanwhile, Tess and Jonesy fight over her new marriage to Dr. Carmichael.

At the remains of their house, PJ finds a photo frame with Maggie in it, and pockets it but doesn't tell Jo. The arson squad discovers that it wasn't arson but a single candelabra - exactly what Ben had going.

The 'hero' who entered PJ's house after the fire, Wayne Bayliss, is considered a suspect, particularly when a driptorch and a scrapbook of news articles on fires is found at his home.

Amongst those searching, Tess and PJ must admit their true feelings for Jonesy and Jo respectively. But even as the flames die down, there is trouble when Ben - who realises he may have caused the entire bushfire - promises that he has stopped drinking, even though it may not be true.

Sabu, the family dog of Tom's family is accused of killing livestock. Tess takes the hard line impounding the dog. As per usual Jonesy questions Tess' stance, resulting in another D & M between the lovestruck, but unattainable pair. Tess revelas that as a child she had a dog...for merely a few weeks. From all magazine accounts Jonesy fronts Tess late one night in the station a gorgeous border collie pup in his arms.

Ben, out on patrol, pulls over Inspector Falcon-Price'ss wife. The media find out about the incident and the Inspector is not impressed.

Tom has to deal with Compo Hayes who smashed into Tom's car.

Tess's husband gets offered a job in Melbourne, and decides to take it.

The road patrol uncovers a grisly homicide.

JO once again becomes involved with Sam Baxter, a troubled teen last seen in Those That Trespass.

Sam, safely ensconced in Jo's house and attending school regulary; well at least for the last few days, joins the school netball team.

Trouble begins to brew when parents become upset about team plaements.

The coach is bashed and the star player a vitim of a hit and run.

During a match Sam deliberately trips another player who ends up with a broken nose. Jo insists Sam apologise, whish she does, but she also gets kicked off the team.

Grace asks Sam to stay with her and Tom, she accepts.

JO finds out through Tom, that PJ's opinion was asked.

Jo fronts PJ, and they part on bad terms.

Human remains are found in a shallow grave. As PJ and Jo are feduing yet again, Jonesy accompanies PJ, much to his delight. The other Heelers are called out, to assist in door knocks, Jo finds an old ladies body in a house opposite the grave site - she is convinced the two cases are connected.

Whilst investigating the death of the old lady, a young boy is found intruding.

Meantime PJ and Jonesy are investigating the case of the human remains, they find out the remains are those of a Mt Thomas woman who went missing 10 years prior. They question the boyfriend who finally admits that he killed her.

However all is not as it seems, in searching his house, Jo finds a slip of paper with a phone number on it. The phone number belongs to the boy found in the old ladies house.

There is a link after all. The young boy, is the son of the young dead woman, he was given to his 'mother', by the older dead woman, a midwife. The girl died in child birth, was buried by the midwife and her boyfriend

Private Investigator Archie Garrett returns to Mount Thomas to find a petty thief stealing personal items from the patients at a new detox centre. Jo Parrish and PJ accidentally come across Archie when they notice a woman running through the grounds of the centre, fleeing from an imaginary demon. When detox patients claim they've a seen ghost rumours of a murder at Layton Hall in the 1800s just fuel the gossip. A determined Jo pushes PJ to continue investigating the mysterious happenings at the detox centre in order to get to the bottom of the ghost story.

With Tess' husband now working at a Melbourne hospital, Jonesy deides it's his job to keep her, and her puppy (Puddles), company at night and turns up on her doorstep with a freshly caught fish dinner. All seems to be going well until he starts quizzing her about her ten-week marriage to Dr. Josh Carmichael. Tess' breathing gets more and more difficult and she collapses in his arms. At the hospital Jonesy is confused to find Josh on duty. Why would he be on duty in Mount Thomas when he's supposed to be in Melbourne? At the hospital Jonesy investigates what initially appears to be a simple bag snatch but it escalates into a more serious crime involving the theft of dangerous drugs… with Dr. Carmichael becoming a prime suspect. The case is made all the more disturbing by reports from patients who have reported being aware during surgery. Jonesy solves the crime… but is determined to get to the bottom of Dr. Carmichael's personal life—even if it means hurting the person he really cares ab

Everyone is gossipping about Tess' failed marriage after last week's discovery, but out on patrol, Jonesy defends Tess. Jonesy and Ben come across two 12-year-old boys chroming and attempt to help them kick the habit, only to discover that their home-life provides no help and takes it upon himself to save them. When one of the young boys dies, Ben can't cope with the loss and hits the bottle again.

Jo, Jonesy and Tom join some St Davids members, Rusty, Snr Sergeant Baines, and A sergeant, Kirsten (with who Rusty has had an affair) on a team building adventure weekend - a 'love in'.

Done in classic flashback style, we initially see Ben in the sack with Inspector Falcon Price's wife Felicity. We next see FP accusing Jo of sabotaging equipment in an attempt to 'kill' him.

As the episode progresses, the teams at the love in, all on first name bases, are picked. Jo being 'red' team leader, Rusty being 'blue'. A healty competition ensues with some in fighting within the blue team, consisting of Rusty, Jonesy and Snr Sergean Baines. Baines is ridiculed by Rusty when they have to cross a river, whilst Jonesy uoends the raft on which FP is floating.

In typical flashback style we're taken initially to the crime as it happens, the lead up to the crime and then the investigation.

At the same time, we see Ben attend his first AA meeting and a chance meeting with Mrs felecity Falcon Price. th

Against PJ's advice ben continues his affair with Felecity Falcon Price. It seems a night without electricity causes sparks to fly between the memebers of Mt thomas Station. PJ and Jo, seeming in the middle of nowheer are about to do the deed, at jo's insistance.

Jonesy is more than happy, that the station is in darkenss whilst he is on duty with Tess. Being without phones can only be a good thing. As they are about to get closer, Tess drops a bombshell secret, (which isn't actually a secret to most BH fans).

Episode 389 May 07, 2003 Jonesy and Tess become involved in a suicide investigation of an elderly father with suspected brain cancer. It soon becomes a murder enquiry when PJ discovers bruises on the victim's face and an unregistered rifle. A family argument and the daughter's affair with the hired help leave PJ convinced of their connection to the crime. Jo confronts Ben regarding his affair with the inspector's wife. Jonesy corners Tess regarding her baby and their future together. The new doctor in town, performs the autopsy and PJ is struck by the Russian blonde's looks and accent.

Tess and Ben encounter a family custody dispute with a difference, when they meet a lesbian couple, Andrea and Natalie, their son Kai, and his father, Gethin, the sperm donor. Gethin has been refused access rights to his son, and when Natalie is knocked unconscious he is the natural suspect. Inspector Falcon-Price serves an intervention order on Gethin, who in turn threatens the Inspector's children. When the Inspector discovers his children missing the Heelers begin a search… but they find out more than the whereabouts of the children when they find Ben in bed with Felicity!

Following the Inspector's discovery the Heelers try to put out the fire. Ben is determined to move to Melbourne with Felicity and her two children, but PJ tries to talk some sense into him. Felicity spends the night at the watch house with Tess, while Jo spends the night at the Inspector's house and lets slip where Ben and Felicity met. When the kids are abducted by Gethin, posing as a detective, the Heelers set up an exchange—the Inspector's two children for Gethin's son Kai. The exchange goes wrong when Gethin panics and Ben risks his life to save young Katherine. But will it be enough to save his relationship with Felicity?

As her pregnancy progresses, Tess starts dreaming vividly, until she is woken by Jonesy and he drags her down to a local jewellery shop which he claims has been burgled. Upon investigation they find the padlocked chain on the gate still intact. But when the owner discovers $20,000 worth of jewels missing their bad dream becomes reality. Jonesy soon finds himself in a difficult position when a former Det Sgt reveals who is responsible for the series of strange burglaries.

Young Sam Baxter is implicated when there is a burglary—at the telephone shop run by Sam's estranged mother Adele. After being open just one month the burglary will set Adele and her partner, Lachlan, back severely. Adele points the finger at Sam, much to Jo's horror. Sam's alibi is weak and when Lachlan is found unconscious, the victim of a hit and run, things become more complicated. Who ran him down and why? Could it have been Sam, jealous of her mother's relationship with him? When Adele is later found unconscious in her van, with the exhaust pumping into the cabin, it looks like she tried to kill herself. But why? Did she run down her boyfriend?

Jo announces she's moving out of the house she shares with PJ and Ben and moving in with her new boyfriend! When a body is found by the railway line the investigation leads the Heelers to a local internet cafe, run by a waring husband and wife. They both remember seeing the dead woman just days earlier, an American who travelled to Australia to meet her ""Prince Charming"". The search soon begins for a cyber lover who may also be a murderer.

Jo Parrish is rarely at a loss for words, but the Mt Thomas constable is momentarily speechless when she meets her father Jeff's new girlfriend for the first time. You can't blame her. The woman, Shaylee Smith, is nearly the same age as she is! How can her father be dating her? What's more, Jo (Jane Allsop) is convinced her father's young lover is up to no good. ""As well as being very suspicious, Jo is also angry that her father (played by Bill Young) could possibly be having a sexual relationship with this young woman,"" Jane explains.

Jonesy pushes Tess to watch a birthing video and name her unborn child. A young man, Rory, suffering from Schizophrenia takes a strange liking to Tess, believing her to be an angel. When a fire starts in Rory's home both the father and son blame each other, but a series of strange fires point the finger of suspicious at the father - but why? Jonesy thinks Rory is just eccentric, but when Rory cracks its Tess who is most at risk.

Pam, a new female plumber in town, stirs up trouble with Mount Thomas' resident plumber, Charlie Clarke. Charlie mysteriously turns up at every job Pam is called to and tries to undercut her price—she accuses him of stalking and he accuses her of stealing his livelihood. Coincidentally when Chris Riley reports a foul smell at The Imperial and with just days before a big Rotary function at the hotel both plumbers turn up to fix the problem and a turf war erupts.

Tom's teenage step-son, Daniel, finds a class mate stabbed in an alley, Jonesy and Tess are shocked to find the young victim had a knife. Daniel denies any knowledge of armed gangs, but his younger brother says otherwise. When the teenage stab victim goes missing from the hospital, Jonesy and Tess find the boys in a tense stand-off armed with knives. Tess tries to take control of the situation, but when one boy lunges in her direction Jonesy throws himself in between them and takes a knife in the torso.

Ben investigates the health of a baby boy reared by his widowed dad. The man is trying to treat the boy's fever with natural remedies, to the exclusion of conventional medicine, which outrages the police officer and leads to an eventual kidnapping.

Jo and PJ discover the body of a young woman at the bottom of a cliff in a suspected suicide. PJ is surprised to find out that Marco Fiorelli, his new flatmate, not only knew the woman—but she worked for his father! PJ's investigations reveal Marco's father is wanted by the fraud squad for raising $15 million against non-existing assets and it seems like his debtors are closing in when they pay a visit to the house and kidnap Jo who they think is the key to reach Fiorelli. The threat to Jo's life makes PJ realise his true feelings for her. But will it be too late?

Tess struggles to keep her emotions under control as her raging hormones give her a ""pregnancy brain"". When a pedantic husband tries to stop his pregnant wife playing squash, a scuffle breaks out between them and Tess arrests him for assault. Ben sides with the husband, and suggests they should try counselling, but Tess seems hell bent on arresting him. Tom feels that Tess' personal life and her pregnancy is affecting her professional decisions—and suggests Tess stand down from operational duties… but his suggestion only makes things worse… until Tess is confronted with a horrible reality.

A French documentary maker in town to film country policing captures all the intricacies and conflicts when the Heelers are forced to investigate one of their own. In a series of flashbacks, the Frenchman's video footage reveals the truth behind Widgeree's Senior Constable Ian Goss' suspected cover-up of a crime, as it's being investigated by internal affairs.

Ben has joined the Salvation Army, much to the amusement of his colleagues. They are certain it's only because he fancies the new captain, Marissa, but Ben denies it. He sets out to impress her but his courting attempts are thwarted when an investigation keeps leading to some of her favourite welfare recipients. When a young boy's guinea pig goes missing, Ben sees it as an opportunity to show Marissa his softer side. He ropes Jonesy into helping. Eventually, their hunt leads to the missing pet—and also the shoplifters. But will Ben's efforts be enough to convince Marissa to go on a date with him?

Tess is delighted when her sister Bridie turns up in town with a good job and a new boyfriend, but Jonesy has to work hard to overcome an instinctive dislike. The Heelers are baffled when a man confesses to murdering a young woman, but they can't find her body. Bridie flirts with Jonesy, causing escalating aggression from the boyfriend, who takes it out on Bridie, then staggers into the hospital with a stab wound. Meanwhile the young woman is found, but says she's been raped. When the Heelers go to question the boyfriend and the young woman, they discover both have disappeared from the hospital—along with Jonesy, who was supposed to be guarding them. And then an hysterical Bridie leads them to her boyfriend's bloody dead body.

Bridie accuses Jonesy of murder, but makes the mistake of manufacturing evidence against him. When she is found out, suspicion naturally falls on her, and she is arrested. But Tess is convinced of her innocence, and persuades a rather reluctant Jonesy to help her find the real killer. Ironically Tess' efforts to exonerate her sister of murder reveal that she is involved in a far more despicable crime—she has been running a brothel staffed by sex-slaves. Tess is forced to make an emotional choice, finally accepting her sister for who she really is.

Jo's life is saved by a mysterious stranger after she is left choking on her seatbelt after she is run off the road. When she learns her benefactor may have done a drive-by shooting, she refuses to accept it, but the truth is hard to find, partly because of her faulty memory of the events, and partly because of the confusion caused by a light blue ute, which has been involved in a series of crimes, from the drive-by shooting, to running her off the road, to an armed robbery of the Juicy Rooster. Unfortunately the ute's owner has an alibi for at least one of these crimes, and PJ is forced to believe his explanation that his ute was stolen. But by who, and why?

Tess is surprised to discover that her in-laws, are the couple who stopped to help a hit and run victim; they are equally surprised to discover she is pregnant. As Tess tries to stop Evan and Tom fussing about her headaches and blurred vision, PJ begins to suspect the hit and run victim was injured by something far more personal than a vehicle. While PJ and Jo meet the man's wife and teenaged son and try to piece together what happened, Tess' mother-in-law reveals herself as a gynaecologist and diagnoses Tess with Pre-Eclampsia—a potentially life- threatening condition for her and her baby.

Jo takes a single mother, Cherry, under her wing when she arrives in Mt Thomas searching for Ryan, the father of her baby, who disappeared shortly after she announced she was pregnant. She has since been suspected of his murder and is anxious to clear her name. Ryan now has a new girlfriend, and has once again mysteriously disappeared shortly after his new girlfriend announced her pregnancy too. The Heelers think they have a serial absconder on their hands

It is Constable Susie Raynor's first day in Mt Thomas and as she is being given the guided tour, she recognises a released paedophile who has moved into a house opposite a primary school. Ben is appalled, and makes sure he warns the community, but the man Donald Heinz asserts both his innocence and his civil rights, causing much community division and leading Tom to question his decision to appoint Ben as Acting Sergeant. Then a young girl goes missing and the man is accused of abducting her.

Jonesy begins to doubt Susie's efficiency on the job until he is taken hostage by a fugitive in the woods and Susie has to save his life, with the help of a handcuffed suspect.

Ben finds his tolerance tested when his 17-year-old daughter, Maddy, turns up at a seedy Mt Thomas nightclub with her "muso" boyfriend, Kyle, having run away from her mother and siblings in Perth.

Ben is concerned that Maddy is dating a 'weirdo' just to spite him. He tries to push her into someone more suitable, until his judgement is questioned when both boys become implicated for theft and fraud.

Susie fears for her husband Brad's safety when she discovers a grieving father and his son have settled in Mt Thomas. She realises they are the father and brother of the boy who was killed in the same accident that lost Brad the use of his legs. Brad thinks it is just a coincidence but Susie fears that they are out for revenge.

Susie has found her husband, Brad, a job at a local call centre but is distressed to find that it's the work place from hell. When the boss accuses the union organiser of sabotage, Brad is persuaded to play detective and soon suspects the centre is linked to illegal activities.

Ben buys his basketball team pork rolls from a local takeaway shop and is devastated when they all come down with food poisoning. But what appears to be a simple case for the health inspector turns into something else when racism and prejudice rear their ugly heads.

When the Mt Thomas High School principal is attacked, Tom and the Heelers suspect exam theft is the cause. Until, that is, they begin probing into the dysfunctional family of the principal.

Meanwhile, Ben earnestly awaits the promotion to Sergeant that he has been seeking for four years. Last time he wanted it, it was snatched up by Tess. He's so close now, but Inspector Falcon-Price has other plans...

And Susie's marriage troubles escalate; while Tom finds more trials as Daniel finishes school.

When a local man hangs himself, allegations begin surfacing that his psychiatrist slept with him, and other patients.

Meanwhile, Brad and Susie's relationship continues to deteriorate as he continues drinking, and she suggests he see the psychiatrist, however when he sleeps with her things get out of hand.

As their sexual problems are revealed to everyone, Brad moves out and Susie can't take it anymore.

Ben prepares for his promotion to Sergeant only to get the bad news from PJ and Jo that another guy - a friend of Inspector Falcon-Price - is running for the job.

As Susie goes looking for Brad, she discovers another feuding couple, sparked by marital sexual problems.

When PJ's old nemesis Luke Darcy (see season 4's ""The Civil Dead"") is freed from jail, he returns to Mount Thomas and PJ instantly believes he is bad news.

After a bashing, and then the rape of Luke's own grandmother, the evidence points elswhere but PJ's suspicions - and the suspicions of Luke's cousin - lead him to force his anger onto Luke.

Meanwhile, Susie and Ben - who have each spent months in therapy - talk about their issue and Susie begins to think Ben is ignoring it, rather than confronting his feelings about killing her husband.

After Luke attempts to rape and kill Jo, PJ angrily heads to his house. When the others arrive they find Luke dead with an axe in the head - and PJ standing over him...

PJ refuses to explain how he came to be standing over the dead body of Luke Darcy, forcing the Homicide Squad to arrest him for murder. The other Heelers must prove his innocence and find the real killer.

Meanwhile the Heelers get a surprise when Jo finds out that she has been promoted to Senior Constable, when her strips and badge come in the mail. And they also find out that Ditch is the father of Kayla's baby.

Rivalry runs rampant between Chris and her opponent in the lead up to council elections.

The community is split over a decision to ban men from the pools for Muslim women-only swimming sessions.

Ben faces a dilemma when he and his fiancée Marissa search for two homeless kids - the children of an itinerant drifter who collapsed during a pub brawl. Ben has already begun to suspect that he has met his match in selfless self-sacrifice in Marissa, but relations are strained when Ben realises that Marissa is hiding the kids.

While most things work out well, Ben and Marissa soon realise that they don't have the trust to make their marriage work, and decide to call it off.

When Susie finds herself escorting a pet alpaca to a funeral, she really begins to understand something about country policing. Unfortunately the recently acquired alpaca is the heir to a fortune, and suddenly all sorts of contenders emerge to make counter claims.

Ben and Susie face the inquest into Brad's death. What is hoped to be a mere formality quickly becomes complicated when a witness makes damning claims against them both - including accusations that Ben and Susie were having a passionate affair.

P.J. and Jo run into a wall of silence when they investigate the allegation that a music teacher employed by the Mt Thomas Brass Band has been having sex with his under age charges. Tom seeks help from his parish priest, who finds himself constrained by a skeleton in his own closet.

Tom has a black eye, PJ and Jo are in a foul temper after a bush walk goes wrong, Ben and Susie are frustrated after they chase a non-crime, and only when Jonesy reveals his adventures with a new Constable in Widgeree does PJ realise that they all hold a piece of the puzzle which may lead to the recovery of a quarter of a million dollars in stolen loot.

Susie and Evan find a young boy near death during a spate of alcohol robberies at the Imperial. Chris injures herself when she chases after the robbers, and Jones, feeling responsible for not coming to her aid when he had the chance, hires another bartender. But is he part of a gang who is forcing alcohol onto the young?

A woman who works out at the same gym as Susie and Jo is raped, and the Heelers suspect the gym owner when a witness cites sexual harassment. When looking through the local Internet sites, Jonesy discovers a porn site that includes the gym rape victims, and to her horror Jo as well. The race is on to find the rapist before Jo becomes his next victim.
