Linda can't remember what a shoe is called. She's sure it's early-onset dementia. When she finds out it's the menopause, she moves to a caravan in the Forest of Dean to reconnect with her youth.

Linda receives a visit from her sister, who's furious at her for leaving. Meanwhile, The Verderer comes up with a way to stop the developers: living in a tree.

News of Linda’s ledgers spreads across town and the seeds of a domestic revolution are sown. But Linda is reluctant to lead the women’s campaign, and a childhood memory is starting to raise questions.

Linda begins to realise the power her ledgers have unleashed in the town’s women. Meanwhile, with eel numbers dwindling, the Eel Sisters reluctantly agree to trial Linda’s idea: vegan mushroom eels.
