Discuss Captain Future

I am avoiding this like hell since a while, alas, some day it has to be discussed I think. First the easy part, almost every Episodepicture is broken. I might replace them with HQ Versions, but before I do so, I really like to address some major problems with German entries for this show. As you may (or may not) know, In Germany this show was aired by ZDF, where it was severely butchered: Usually the show had story blocks consisting of 4 ep a 30 min, ZDF made them (with only one exception) 3 ep a25. So in Germany there where only 40 instead of 52 Episodes. That means the representation here is (and probably will be) always wrong. Over at the tvdb some Captain Future Fan took over and simply translated the japanese Blu-Ray release, which is also available in Germany now. But that would mean to ignore the original airing, many names are "new", the EP Titles are different and so on.

Personally, I 'd prefer a solution where the original German cut gets a complete new entry, I'd argue that this cut doesn't represent the original show anyway and more important, that the Soundtrack made by Christian Bruhn had such a huge impact (honestly, whenever i watch the original intro, i think more of loveboat then a sci-fi show), that this already qualifies as a different show. But yeah, I understand that this probably isn't going to happen.

As I see it, there are several Options to fix the German entry:

  • Keep it as it is now
  • Reorder the episodes
  • New show entry
  • Translate the original show and ignore the ZDF airing.

1) The entries as they are now are the most accurate for Germany. This is how the show was cut. However it does not represent the airing order (see here) and the episodes will start to drift apart. (EP 4 is the start of a new Story Block, while the original has it as ending for the previous block, EP 40 is already 4 Stories ahead by then). So original airdate and Episode pictures will never match. To enhance it, I'd propose to have two Episode Images (which I may provide) one for the original entry and one, explicitly for the German cut. I know this is against the Guidelines, but this might count as exception. Additionally, I'd like to add an Episode Group, representing the ZDF Airing Order.

2) This is basically a variation to 1), to avoid the EP drift, the episode translations could be moved, so every 4th entry is skipped.

3) As proposed above, consider the German cut a complete new entity and give it its own entry.

4) Basically, do what was done over at tvdb and go straight for the Blu-ray release.

For various reasons, I'd prefer solution 1). It wouldn't cause much trouble and brings a bit more accuracy, while keeping the show as it was aired in Germany.

2) wouldn't add that much to accuracy, but would mean a lot of trouble and personally I'd avoid that.

3) Would be the best Solution imho, but I understand this is not going to happen.

4) Now, this is a hard one. On a first glance, it would fix the most addressed issues. The Blu-ray is (or better was) now available in Germany and at least has subtitles. However, I'd argue against that, because this is not how the show was aired (in Germany), it looses most of the original Translations (Character Names eg. Otto -> Otho, Titles and so on) Given the huge impact the show had in Germany, I'd really like to preserve the ZDF Cut with all the bad it brought.

So, what do you think? May I go for Solution 1? Or are there arguments against that? Any other solution I may have overlooked?
