They were released as three films in Australia on Stan but they were originally released as episodes of a TV show in the UK on CBBC.

That's not actually true. They were released as stand-alone films months apart.

Tell that to the BBC and its TV show listing on both CBBC (geo-restricted link) and iPlayer.

They may have grouped them together on iplayer, but this is not a "miniseries", which would imply episodic programming on a weekly or less basis, not 3 x 90 minute films in December, March and May.

For TV shows, miniseries does not imply "episodic programming on a weekly or less basis," it implies that it's a TV show with a predetermined number of episodes. On TMDB, a miniseries is any TV show with 12 episodes or less.
This is a TV show because it aired as a 3-episode TV show on CBBC and it's listed as such on the CBBC website.

These are clearly listed as four films on the bbc iplayer website: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episodes/m001tbsj/the-famous-five

Here they are described as "films":
https://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/2024/the-famous-five-mystery-at-the-prospect-hotel-teaser-first-look https://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/mediapacks/the-famous-five-mystery-at-the-prospect-hotel
In any case, with the addition of a second "series" of two films, bringing the total to five films this is clearly no longer a miniseries.
It's not clear why the Famous Five films are not listed as such, when similar feature length episodic series such as Sharpe (https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/79451-sharpe-s-peril), or special Christmas episodes of Doctor Who (https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/1409664-doctor-who-joy-to-the-world) are.

The page that need to be take in account are the one from CBBC with its screenshot above and the pages of the Genome, the official archive of the BBC :
I don't know why iPlayer use the term "movie" inside an episode page (see the URL pf the page), but it's only the replay site, not the original broadcaster.
This will not anymore be a miniseries, but it will still be a TV series.
I can't talk about Sharpe as I don't know it, but the page for Joy to the World has already been removed, like all the similar one that have been created before.

There are still a lot of Doctor Who Christmas specials, or indeed serials showing as movies: https://www.themoviedb.org/search/movie?query=Doctor%20Who For example, this is another Christmas special: https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/369145-doctor-who-the-snowmen and https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/438116-doctor-who-the-armageddon-factor is episodes 21-26 of season 16: https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/121-doctor-who/episode_group/6211072396670e006ba4e521/group/636119157f6c8d007dcce596
It's probably not the best source, but the Wikipedia page for Sharpe shows the breakdown of the episodic nature of the series: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sharpe_(TV_series)#List_of_episodes or epguides: https://epguides.com/Sharpe/
