Language: en-US

Type of Problem: Incorrect_content

Extra Details: Hello,

just to say you to note that all the season premieres (except for the last 7th season) are all 90 minutes long episodes, every composed by three segments.

I collected the 6 newspaper snapshots at this link as a proof:

Even if some newspapers present the start of the "Tales of the Crypt" seasons as a single element in the grid:

  • These newspaper snippets : 1 and 2 seems to proove that the 3 first stories of the first season were broadcasted as a single episode.
  • This newspaper snippet seems to proove that the 3 first stories of the second season were broadcasted as a single episode.
  • This newspaper snippet seems to proove that the 3 first stories of the third season were broadcasted as a single episode.
  • This newspaper snippet seems to proove that the 3 first stories of the fourth season were broadcasted as a single episode.
  • This newspaper snippet seems to proove that the 3 first stories of the fifth season were broadcasted as a single episode.
  • This newspaper snippet seems to proove that the 3 first stories of the sixth season were broadcasted as a single episode.

they are sometimes ambiguous in the descriptions, using the term "episode" for each separate stories.

There are also a few newspapers that list the stories separately in the grid. For example,

  • Here for the fourth season.
  • Here or here for the fifth season.

I have asked another moderator to have a look.

Considering how the rest of the episodes aired, most of the newspaper clippings do show that they aired together as single episode, or a triple episode since it's 3 aired as 1. Old newspapers are probably the next best thing for something that aired almost 40 years ago so if @superboy97 believes they're good enough, then yeah, the episodes should be merged.

I'm sorry if I put you in difficulty. If my opinion counts (but I'm not a moderator unfortunately) after a more accurate researches by @superboy97 (that get me the doubt too), this case respect the other ones fixed recently, is very ambiguous. Maybe it can be that some newspapers timetables are not so accurate, and that the network broadcasted the episodes one after the other, everyone with its title and end credits.

Thinking about it, generally if it decides to produce anthological episodes composed of segments it does it for the whole or most of the season as done recently for Creepshow on Shudder, not only for the premieres.

I don't know, I can only say that no problem if you wanted to leave everything as it is, it's always easy to open a new topic if more consistent and less ambiguous evidences is found.

Modifications done.

Hi, Just read this thread.

What is the best solution for all home media users that were using this as metadata for so long? Every episode in season 1-6 is now broken and I can't see a way video files can be merged into one? (That's certainly not how it is presented in nearly all instances to the end user either (be it streaming or physical media releases). Perhaps a better solution would be to just add the three episode note in a trivia section? It seems excessive to break this after decades. Also I know concessions have been made in the past for Plex/Jellyfin users i.e "Fire Walk With Me" been allowed in the tv specials etc for Twin Peaks, here we have far, far more correction work been presented to the end user for very, very little gain. It's essentially ruined the presentation of the show.

As per our rules, we absolutely need to follow the original broadcast. I quote : "Episodes should be added exactly as they first aired on the original network (title, date, order, season)."

That's a real shame it would be broken like this after all this time with no solution offered to the end user outside of either hours of work or switching to tvdb. But I do appreciate the fast response.
