As Crocus prepares for its major annual social event, the Snow Ball, speculation abounds regarding who will escort the town's most eligible woman, Emily Henchbaw.

When a blizzard hits Crocus, the Sanitary Cafe is transformed into a temporary hospital and Jake tries to rescue Albert, who has had a heart attack.

While trying to prove that he is grown-up enough to drive a tractor, Ben accidentally starts a prairie grass fire that traps him and threatens the town.

Paul, the new schoolteacher, competes with Jake for Julia's affections while they stage a town production of ""Romeo and Juliet"". Meanwhile, Ben breaks his arm while showing off in front of his buddies.
