TMDB supports only the official titles used by ABC, and ABC does not use this format to title the episodes. These titles are fan-created.

I've reverted the title changes you made to episodes I know with 100% certainty were not released like that.

If that's the case, should I update to the "official" titles that were used? I actually don't mind, I was just making the updates for consistency.

For example, season 12, which I believe I didn't edit, seems to use the fan names, whereas Hulu just has them as episode 1-25. I was just trying to make the updates for consistency, so if the rest are wrong, happy to update that way instead :)

If you have the time, that would actually be very helpful. I've been meaning to go through the show's titles, but haven’t had the time to deal with the Internet Archive's slowness. From what I could tell from checking the Archive for episodes here and there, Wikipedia actually has the correct titles for the whole series. There are a couple seasons where ABC actually did use this format, but for the most part, and at least the past few seasons, they've just used "Episode X".

OK, let me give that a shot. I'll update one season, confirm things are good, and then can do the rest. It's useful to know the sources because that's the most difficult part of this (so it seems) is finding the actual title used.

OK, apologies, but want to confirm I'm doing this correctly before I make more changes we need to revert. I was looking at Season 7, since I thought that naming (even on wikipedia) was a bit odd (see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Shark_Tank_episodes#Season_7_(2015–16)). The official ABC website seems to just use "Episode xx" as the naming when I look back to Nov of 2015 - ex: https://web.archive.org/web/20151128041430/http://abc.go.com/shows/shark-tank

Does this seem like a reasonable approach to checking the actual titles? I want to make sure I'm looking at the right thing in the internet archive / wayback machine.

Based on that page I would say ABC was condensing the titles for the Latest Episodes view. If you click on "latest episodes >>", it takes you to their episode guide where there are actual titles assigned to the episodes. I would say what's most important is the title used on the episode's actual page, which matches what's on the episode guide: "Week 9: National Association of Bubble Soccer, Umano, Brazi Bites, SockTABS" for episode 7x9.

The archives for the episode guide also line up with the weirdness where ABC seems to have renamed the episodes mid-season. On February 19, the episodes have actual titles, but on February 26, they've all been renamed to the "Episode X" format.

Based on the above, assuming they copy/pasted everything correctly for episodes 1–17, I would say that Wikipedia's titles are correct for season 7, except for 7x29. I'm not sure where they got "Season Finale" from, since the earliest archive (four days after airing) doesn't include that.

Take a peek at the updated Season 8 episodes and confirm everything looks good and then I can continue!

Season 7 onwards should now be correct after a ton of double-checking with the ABC site. There are still some runtimes that are off (42 vs. 43 vs. 44 min), but perhaps that problem is for another day. Once you are done with S6, I can look at 1-5 and do a quick once over there as well. let me know if you see anything i missed!
