Mona Grudt of Norway was crowned by her predecessor Angela Visser of Holland at the end of the event. Seventy one contestants competed for the title.

Miss Universe 1991 was the 40th anniversary of the Miss Universe pageant, held on 17 May 1991 at the Aladdin Theatre for the Performing Arts in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States. Lupita Jones of Mexico crowned by Mona Grudt of Norway. Seventy-three contestants competed in the 1991 Miss Universe pageant.

Miss Universe 1992 was the 41st Miss Universe pageant, held on 9 May 1992 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Bangkok, Thailand. Seventy-eight contestants competed in this year. Michelle McLean of Namibia was crowned by Lupita Jones of Mexico at the event's conclusion. This is the first and so far only time that Namibia won the pageant.
