Discuss Mission: Impossible

An undercover agent has been found and captured by the syndicate. He is being interrogated. Can the IMF team rescue him before it is no longer useful to keep him alive? Silly question. The real question is: How will they do it?

Well, they use the old "ghost of the loved one" trick on one of the bad guys, spurring him to investigate the real cause of her death. Our boys (with some help from the uncredited but trusty Hartford Repertory Players) drop some clues in his path. Meanwhile, Jim allows himself to be captured by a rival bad guy after they allow him to seduce a receptionist working for the first bad guy.

I was captivated. I had no idea where all this plotting within plotting was going to lead and it was fun watching it unspool. Another win.

The Star Trek connection: the guy beating up and torturing our agent was the creepiest incarnation of the salt vampire in The Man Trap. Here his hair has grown out to a seventies perm (or he used a wig -- I wasn't sure). He doesn't really cut an imposing figure, but he does project a cruel aura that works for this story.

@sukhisoo wink I also remember seeing him in the first Hawaii 5-0 episode, the title of which is Full Fathom Five. And he also played a Russian General in a third season episode of Twelve O'Clock High.

The names of the two bad guys were probably for comic relief: 'Apollo' and 'Epic'. grin

Also, the actor playing the undercover agent, William Boyett, played Sgt. MacDonald on Adam-12.

And Barney has a moustache again.

Just watched this last night. Love this episode

@wonder2wonder: I have to strongly disagree about Kevin MacCarthy. He's just too creepy looking and gives off too much of a creepy aura for my taste. Fun Fact: The first (and probably best) version of The Invasion Of The Body Snatchers, which Kevin MacCarthy starred in, was filmed in Sierra Madre, California.

Legend has it that Jim's dinner date from the season six episode Invasion is STILL waiting for him at that restaurant table.

😂

@wonder2wonder : Those last names Epic and Apollo sound like character names from Battlestar Galactica.
