Discuss Mission: Impossible

I slowly progress through Season 7.

Today's episode begins with Loraine Stephens telling her husband to leave all his top secret incriminating records with her instead of taking them on a plane to the big bad guy.

"You are too beautiful to be trusted," he says, finally speaking one of the unspoken rules of Mission: Impossible. It doesn't do any good. She has a compadre who whacks him with a pipe and takes him onto the airplane, parachutes out, leaving the plane to explode in flames.

It is up to Jim and the IMF to come up with a delightfully complicated plan to get their hands on the records.

Loraine Stephens, meanwhile, blackmails the big bad baddie, which definitely puts her life in danger.

Jim pretends to be a hit man. Barney pretends to be a crooked cop. They pretend to be in cahoots. Well, they are in cahoots, but not in the way Ms. Too Beautiful to be Trusted thinks.

Willie does all the sneaky stuff.

An Average Joe pretends to be the villainess's not so dead husband. Casey pretends to be his girlfriend.

Jim pretends to be smitten by Ms. Beautiful.

Everyone double crosses everyone else and the IMF arrests the bunch and gets their hands on the McGuffin. (Ooops. I guess that was a spoiler.)

(Another spoiler. After all that careful planning, Jim ends up with a gun pointed at him and he has to do a TV action hero move to disarm the bad guy.)

A fun but unspectacular outing.

I hope I watch the next one relatively soon. I enjoy this show. I enjoy the 7th season even though it doesn't live up to the superior first four and half seasons.

(Edited to fix the title)

Oh I thought you finished all these. That was a very good episode

Not yet. I'm moving through them very slowly.

Savor these episodes 😁

What I notice is whenever one of the team fakes their death, nobody ever seems to be concerned about getting rid of the body. And if they do, they could get careless and drop him on his head and kill him for real. Seems risky 😀

Star Trek did a Mission: Impossible type episode (The Enterprise Incident).

They faked Kirk's death. As Doctor McCoy noted, "You took a big chance they didn't start an autopsy."

Lorraine Stephens looks (at least I thought) like the beautiful woman Jim dumps in the pre-credits scene of Invasion.

@sukhisoo: I always felt sorry for Joanne Linville's Romulan Commander character. It's the only time in Star Trek TOS history that a woman gets to be a Starship Captain.

Well, in Turnabout Intruder, Janice Lester was, for a time, the captain of the Enterprise. The crew was largely unaware that it was her, though. In TOS world, apparently, women were not psychologically fit to command starships. An argument could be made that it was only Janice Lester that was not fit to command. Arguments, as a matter of fact, have been made on this topic. Many arguments.

In The Earth is Hollow and I Have Touched the Sky, Natira was in command of a starship even though she didn't know it was a starship until Kirk mansplained things to her. She then took charge and made the right decisions to ensure the survival of her race.

In The Lorlelei Signal, Uhura was in charge of the Enterprise and actually saved the day, but she didn't have the designation of "Captain." For that matter, neither did Joanne Linville's character. But they were in charge. That is the main thing. Titles are secondary.

In Wink of an Eye, Deela was in charge of the Enterprise. She wasn't Captain. She was more of a queen. She definitely had the upper hand for most of the episode.

@sukhisoo : I am very impressed with of your powers of recall!
